This is Rusure's original statement of his 1541 - ii problem
My three 1541 - II drives seem to work ok except that they
have no springs for ejecting floppy disks when a disk
is released from the drive. I have to manually remove
the disk after I release the disk clamping mechanism.

This is Radioactive Warrior's response to Rusure's dilemma
This is normal. What ever made you think
flip-door drives ever had eject mechanisms?

This is Videoman's response to the rhetorical
portion of Radioactive Warrior's statement
Perhaps he has seen the other version of the model
1541-ii floppy disk drive (the one that includes an
ejection spring type of device),

This is Are You sure's response to the rhetorical
portion of Radioactive Warrior's statement
Before I ever had a 1541-ii drive, I had 1571's,
ordinary 1541's, 1581's and various 1541 clones.
For every properly functioning drive, the disk was
ejected automatically when I released the disk
clamp. My first 41-ii performed perfectly after
my purchase except for disk ejection. I suspected
that its spring had failed after a long faithful
life performing for its first owner. When I acquired
more 41-ii's without springs, I thought that Commodore
had either designed these drives without ejections
springs or that the springs had a high failure rate.
I decided to resolve my confusion in this forum.

I'll just say that I own both versions of the 1541-ii floppy disk drive -
both the spring type of ejection and the version without an ejection
spring type of device. I noticed that the unit that doesn't have the
ejection spring leaves significantly more of the floppy disk outside of
the drive (i.e. more area of the floppy to grab onto) than the other unit.
Also - my newtronics 1541 floppy disk drive (the one with the twist
open/close door) does not have an ejection spring type of device. All of
this is normal as far as I understand it. Good luck!
