Tis Terry Raymond I just did subscribe to comp.sys.cbm.
Does anybody know of the whereabouts of Nate Dannenberg or "Vanessa"
I guess he or *it* changed genders and changed *its* last name, I
thought maybe Vanessa might still log on here since I havent seen
vanessa's posts on Homestead for quite a few years.
I need some info on the Connectix Quickcam project that Nate designed
if anybody knows anything about this, well if someone else may
understand that particular schematic *of Connectix Quickcam project*
please let me know by email.
Thank you.

Her name is Vanessa, she's not an 'it'.

Don't hold you breath after that effort, clown.

Great.

You can find Dannenberg's e-mail at this address:
Hi Riccardo,
Actually the above address is outdated, for reasons that Golan mentioned.
Perhaps I should update it? :-)
See below for my (pathetically) spam-armored address.

I see.

Urgh! :-)
Well, I guess this should also serve as a reply to the OP's original
message at the same time - unless he has a very low IQ and doesn't
understand what to remove ;-)
Are you still into the Commodore scene? It's some time I don't see your
homepage up and running.

Hi Terry..
That was not a very good way to start out. Notwithstanding your "it"
comments and name confusion (it's been more than five years since my legal
name change, for crying out loud)...
I can probably explain the schematic for you, but I need to know what part
of it you don't understand. Bear in mind that I designed that thing close
to ten years ago (can anyone here clarify that? I've lost track!)
The basis of the circuit is a 4066 quad switch, wired such that I could
use /PA3 (serial /ATN) on the User Port is used to turn all four gates
on/off in one go. Otherwise, most of the lines just go straight to the
camera.
I don't have the schematic or software in front of me right now, but as I
recall, this was done to switch the interface between the
camera's "command" mode, where eight lines used to send commands to the
camera, and its "data" mode, where four bits used to read image data from
the sensor.
I chose the 4-bit-wide "data" mode because it was the simplest to
implement - the "command" mode always used an 8-bit data path but the only
other "data" mode the camera could do was 12 bits wide.
In retrospect, I probably should have tossed a flip-flop in so that I could
use the /PC line as a clock instead of a plain data line (PA2 I think).
This would have reduced the CPU load slightly. For whatever reason, the
designers of the camera chose to use a toggling clock line (high for one
command or data byte, then low for the next, and repeat) rather than a
simple pulse like you'd expect.

hahahah
I wasn't going to go so far as to say that; I don't know why Terry didn't
notice it...

I am sorta, but with all my stuff off in a storage unit 1300 miles away, I'm
kinda idle at the moment.
I took my pages down because they've become outdated. I've been toying with
the idea of a full refit of the site, but I'm not sure where I want to
start yet, or even what kind of content it should carry.

Vanessa, I for one was distressed when your pages went away. You not
only had some great designs up there, you had some additional
intriguing ideas that you hadn't fully developed yet. It's always nice
to read something that makes you think.
For those who don't know, Nick Coplin wrote some additional support
software for Vanessa's QuickCAM interface, and a D64 of both her work
and his (including the circuit design in glorious ASCII!) is available
from the 64HDD site at: http://www.64hdd.com/projects/c64-proj2.html#QuickCam
