I would really like to take up where I left off (writing machine code /
assembly language), however I'm not sure if I would be "flogging a dead
horse". I might just give it a bash for old times sake :)
I have managed to get my 1541 working with an XM(?)1541 cable via
opencbm on Linux. I must say this is really great!
I always had 4 "applications" which I considered "essential" for my C64
enjoyment:
1. Laser Genius (which I have - original with manuals)
2. MPS Toolkit IV (also have - downloaded)
3. 3IN1 Editor (found it on comp.emulators.cbm)
4. Action Replay VI (have original with manual)
I would also love to find either Basic Lightning (have original box set
minus the cassette) or Laser Basic (have googled for hours without luck).
Nice to be back again ;)
I got a few item here that might interest you. CP/M stuff and a few
assembly language programs and manuals. Let me know if you're
interested and I'll happily dig them out for you.
In you reference to the "community," there's VERY FEW of us still
left that use "ACTUAL COMMODORES." Tons of people are calling BBS's,
crunching Codes, performing Disk Images, etc. using PC
"EMULATORS." (YUCK!)
Your best bet is to check out any of the following:
Fresno Commodore Computer Users Group
Toronto Pet Users Group
These are the only 2 groups that are still together that I know of,
but the following BBS's can possibly lead you in the right direction
as to where more users can be found at.
Excalibur BBS (someplace in New Jersey)
Cottonwood BBS (Moreno Valley California)
or the Lost Caverns BBS (Someplace in Minnesota)
Retrogradebbs (Ohio)
Inner Circle BBS
Good luck, John! :):)
Charles
Correction...Excalibur's Stone BBS is in Addison (Dallas) Texas ;).
Currently down but should have it back up soon.
Oh and don't forget
The Wizard's Realm BBS (which is located in NEW JERSEY)

Charles,
Surely you haven't forgotten about the OTHER two Commodore User Groups
that are still active in the western half of the U.S. besides the
Fresno group...
Anything Commodore User Group (ACUG) in Astoria, Oregon: http://www.acug0447.com
Clark County Commodore Computer Club (5C's) in Las Vegas, Nevada
Also... There's the still very much active Cincinnati Commodore
Computer Club (CCCC): http://www.geocities.com/c64-128-amiga

I thought you moved out of state when you shut Excalibur's Stone down years
ago. So, did the move fall through, or did you move and then return?

Change is inevitable,
except from vending machines!
C64 activities never stopped, just slowed down a little.

I scanned in the Basic and White Lightning manuals a few months ago.
I'll turn on my server again when I get home so you can download it.
The disk I got off Arnold http://arnold.c64.org and it will also be on
my server.
I have a really bad copy of the Laser Genius manual, so if you could
scan that and the disk it'd be appreciated.
Christian
No I didn't move. It was actually two fold..firstly as you recall the
local scene was just about dead with the Internet taking away all the
callers and secondly the wife was getting ultra ultra ultra pissed
that all I did was sit in front of the bbs LMAO! So, in short it was
just about time for it to have gone offline. Of course now that I am
back into it I keep the bbs in my office on the T1. I have bought a
second system to put at home so I can work on the final release of
DMBBS....but.....my wife knows where I keep the shotgun shells so I'm
a little timid to bring a commodore back into the house LMAO!!! I'm
on the corner of Keller Springs and Addison Rd...911 Mobile Computer
Service...feel free to stop by if you're ever on this side of town.

Christian, I think I have those manuals - thank you. I just don't have
the actual application (Basic Lightning).
I don't have a scanner unfortunately, however I intend getting one
before Christmas. I now see the benefit of having one! I will scan the
manual after the purchase.
BTW... how do I access your server?
is my server working?
Not on my end. I get an uable to connect error.

Oh and BTW- I didn't "forget" about them. I just forget about them
TAHT DAY when I was trying to help out a fellow user by letting him
know that there are still a few of us "GEEKS" still out there...
lololo
Nope! I just forgot about them THAT DAY when I was in a hurry trying
to help out a fellow user by letting him know that there were still a
few of us "NERDS" still out there! Lololol
Apologies! I STAND CORRECTED once more! ;)
Charles
