Ok.. I may be on a roll... I discovered:
d64it: http://www.kludgesoft.com/c64/d64it.html
and
CBM Command: http://cbmcommand.codeplex.com/
Both look very promising.

CBM Command works pretty well; it's great for copying files to my
uIEC/SD, and I can use it to turn .d64 images into real disks.
Have you had any luck using it to create .d64 images? I press x, get
the 'enter a name' prompt, name the image, and the floppy spins for a
while and shows that it's reading, but nothing is written out.
I had not tried until you mentioned it. I am running an image right
now. It appears to be working. Here are the steps I used.
typed:
open1,10,15,"cd cbmcmd-2.0.d64":close1
load"*",8
run
Pressed Shift-d and selected floppy drive 8
Pressed x - gave it a file name
Pressed Return
Pressed Return again
It's still running right now... 62%. :) My uIEC is running the latest
10.1 firmware.
I'll report back in a few it the d64 image creation is successful.

Worked perfectly on the first try.
/Zapped/
That's exactly what I did, and it didn't work. (Well, except my uIEC is
set to 9, not 10.)
Tried putting the source disk in a 1541-II instead of the 1571, tried
changing device numbers, nothing.
Then I tried it in 64 mode instead of 128 mode. THAT worked.
So apparently, creating .d64 images doesn't work in CBM Command 128.
Kind of a bummer, since using the 1571's Burst mode would help. And 80
column-ness is nice in a file manager!
Ohwell, I can still use the 128 version to write out images, and do all
the other file-moving stuff.
>It's strange you are having such problems, but I suspect it's specific to 128DCR machines. As I noted on CodePlex, I was able to create a disk image from a 1571 to a uIEC in 128 mode. Can someone else with a 128D try creating a D64 from the internal 1571 to a uIEC?
Is the 128DCR the plastic one or the metal one? I think I have one of
the US metal ones.

DCR is the metal one, which is what I'm using. Or attempting to use, at
any rate. :)

OK, I'll pull one of my 128D'd out and try it.
