Ok, its odd considering emulators are around but i've actually got my
old C64 out of the loft and am trying to run a few old games. I have
these 3 super tapes with 60 odd games on each and remember I have to
load the start of each tape first before loading the rest, but i can't
remember how to do this.

I've so far got

READY
LOAD

PRESS PLAY ON TAPE
OK

SEARCHING
FOUND SUPER TAPE TURBO
LOADING
READY

RUN

New screen with lovely grey background

READY

And now I get confused. Anyone know what it is i meant to type here
to load the next part?

Thanks,

Philip Hanna

This is a tape turbo, which means you can now load your turbo programs
(typically those following the loader). The command you use is <-L to
load, <-S to save and depending on the turbo (I can't remember how the
Elgar 202 block turbo does) there are <-V for verify and <-Q for save
of program not at start of Basic.

The Elgar turbo may or may not flash colours while loading. If it does,
you can see if the load is successful (continuous flashing) or not
(a few unconnected stripes here and there).

To clarify myself; that is left-arrow + l, not less-than + hyphen + l

The Elgar turbo is missing the verify command.

Hi!
Try "arrow" L <ENTER>(you know, the arrrow on the top left),
or LOAD <ENTER>
If this dosen't work, U can try typing load on the Turbo Tape and see if
there are any SYS codes you have to use.
Regards

Super Turbo doesn't flash. Of the three turbo tape loaders that were
common among my "friends", none flashed the border. I did get a hold of
one that did flash the border eventually, but I don't think I used it
for anything more than copying the games, since I by then had got my
TFC3 so I could do LOAD"",7 instead.

I have two copies of Mr. Z's Turbo 250 (which was the one who could
cope with the longest programs - too bad it isn't relocated and can
be restarted with SYS 50000). One without (the first one I got) and
one with the flashing effects, and basically it is the same turbo!

I think I have at least six different hacks on the Turbo Tape 64,
with various add-ons as the <-Q, ability to load larger programs and
two different kinds of loader flash. In the end it boiled down to
using two of those six; one 190 block turbo by Quesoft/3001 (which
was restartable and had <-V, <-Q) and the 250 block by Mr. Z.

Brilliant guys.
Left arrow (the one in the top-left) + L + <ENTER> worked just as i remembered.
Now I just need to find boulderdash.

Thanks,

Phil

I think you mentioned this at some point, but I never saw that version
myself, just the plain old Turbo 250 without flashing.

Would you like to receive a copy of it? :-)

What is <-Q ?

It was a (local?) hack to allow saving programs not starting at start
of Basic (typically $0801). You POKE some locations and use <-Q to save
the memory inbetween these locations. I haven't used it much, but it
seems the one who implemented it found a real reason to create it.

I'm not using the tapes very much, and whenever I do, I just do a
LOAD"",7 with my TFC3, so I don't really think I need it. But thanks
for the offer...

The last turbo I acquired was "Tape Turbo Boost", by One 1989-01-22.
Instead of using <-L, it uses ",L" and only uses gray scale flashing,
but otherwise it is compatible with the traditional Turbo Tape.

I'm not sure what its capacity or other features are, but the welcome
message is "(FUCK AMIGA & ATARI)" which may be suitable for that year.
