Hi

Is there a C64 emulator with MIDI support? If so, what software is available
which can utilise it? (I have tried QuadraSID and found it to be quite
unsatisfactory so decided to try emulating the actual C64 running actual C64
music software)

Thanks
Mark

I'm not quite sure anymore, as it's been a while, but I think PC64/Win
(and *only* the Windows version) had a plugin for MIDI support.
Probably not very well tested, as it surfaced shortly before the
emulator was discontinued, but maybe you should give it a try.

PC64/Win should still be available on FuNet, and with a little luck,
the MIDI plugin is included as well (It was done by Wolfgang Lorenz
himself, that's why I guess so.).

Greetings,
Chris.

Can't find it anywhere. Besides, all the music software for the 64 which I
have tried (both on real 64 and through emulation) was really difficult (for
me) to use. I can't really be arsed "programming" the SID, I just want a
nice GUI interface to make those classic synth sounds. (No criticism of
those who do, it's just not for me)

The way I see it I have several options for recreating SID sounds:

1/ Real C64 + MIDI interface + software
Advantage - cheap and authentic
Disadvantage - unfriendly software (to me), poor sound quality

2/ Real C64 software through emulation
Advantage - free!
Disadvantage - same software issues as 1, SID not totally authentic, MIDI
support???

3/ QuadraSID (VST plugin emulating SID)
Advantage - I've got it
Disadvantage - I can't get it to do much other than the built in patches

4/ HardSID
Now this is tempting. The order page on hardsid.com is blank, so I guess
ordering is on hold until the PCI version of the card is available. Any
ideas on a release date, availability, and cost?
Advantage - real SID, integrates into software I am already familiar with
Disadvantage - expensive???

5/ SIDStation
Advantage - everything I am trying to achieve :o)
Disadvantage - way out of my price range :o(

Number 4 is looking like the way to go, assuming HardSID is still available
and the PCI version is scheduled for release (and isn't too pricey) Does
anyone have some more comprehensive manuals for QuadraSID other than what
comes with it?

Thanks for any advice
Mark
