9.4 has a bbs mode, but I could not login from outside though it does connect
90% of the time. Thanx

There are a bunch of them out there. For the C-64, my personal recommendation
is C*Base 3.1, although DMBBS, C-Net DS-2, and Image 1.4 are also pretty good.
For the 128, C*Base 128 v1.2, C-Net 128 v5 are good titles to consider.
Prices for these range from 50 bucks up. I don't remember offhand the
addresses for Image or C-Net, but for C*Base 64/128 support you can contact
the author of C*Base 64, Gunther Birzneiks, at his support board, The Orchard,
at 1-301-654-3228 (Chevy Chase, MD, USA).

There is also Color64 and Color128, IsaTek, EBBS, RPGBBS, CMBBS, UCBBS,
Ivory, MicroRam (ick), and a few dozen others...

Personally, I have used Color64 and run it. I have tested EBBS. I've seen
Color128 and UCBBS in action as I have seen EBBS in action. I know the author
of IsaTek, although I would suggest not using that program in particular as it
has a bug in it...

Just thought I'd point out some of the other BBSes that exist...

Does anyone know of a BBS program for the 128 (or 64) which will run
Fidonet? I have some spare CBMs and with a CMD hard drive I think
they would make good BBS hosts. But Fidonet access is a must.
(Internet would be better, but let us start small). If there are
such, which is the best in the experience of those who have tried?

Hi Kevin, I,ve always been partial to the program Color64. They now have
a version called Color128. There are many others. But these are very
popular up here in Seattle Washington....

Are you sure you know what you are talking about? First of all, no C64 or
C128 BBS in existance offers Internet access. I think if you knew what was
involved (both from a technological and *economic* standpoint), you would
realize this. In addition, there is ONE BBS program (for the C128) called
VortexNet BBS which will connect to Fido. It's author is Stephen Kunc, and
unfortunately, I don't have his node (or snail mail) address handy.

So, 'which is the best' is not really a valid question. More like 'which is
the only'...

It is for the C128 and allows fidonet echos. I have never seen this program
in action, but it has been around for a few years now. If you would like to
really find out more about it, post a message on the FIDONET CBM or FIDONET C128 echo's if you have access to them.

Hope this helps.

Look into VortexNet for the 128. It is Fido compatible, but is
NOT available as a demo or in shareware. You HAVE to order it,
unfortunately. If you have acess to FidoNet now, chek the CBM-8 bit
conference for more info.
