Does anyone konw how to put d64-files into the d81-file-format ?
i tried with starcommander, 1581copy and cbmconvert but had no success (if
it is anyway possible). I am possibly just too stupid to handle these tools
but i just get an empty d81 file when i try to convert the d64 to d81.
I just need it to transfer my d64 files from the internet on my 128 with
1581.

Thanks in advance, OLI !

Hi Oliver, with the Commander, it should be pretty easy... ;-) Setup one
panel so that it shows the directory where the source D64's are. Setup
the opposite panel so that it shows the directory where the destination
D81's are. (You can switch between the panels with Tab.) Press Enter
or double-click on a D81 and you'll get _inside_ it. (If you don't have
empty D81's yet then use the 'Make disk', Shift-F1 function to create
one.) Now go to the source panel, select some of the D64's with Ins or
keypad Plus, then press Enter and accept the offerred destination which
should like "Disk:C:\PATH\whatever.d81", that is, pointing inside the
D81 you have in the opposite panel. That's it!

If you'd rather like to copy the _files_ inside the D64's into the D81
then all you have to do is press Enter or double-click on the D64's and
copy the files inside them.

Again, it's very easy, just get used to the Commander feeling... ;-)

What did you do _exactly_? You must have made some mistake, because the
tools you listed are perfectly capable of handling this task. Anyways,
here's how I would do it:

- With StarCommander (most recent beta), put the DOS directory with your
d64 image in it into the left panel, and the DOS directory with the d81
image into the right panel. Now press enter on the d81 file and you can
see it's directory, which should be empty.
- Now, you can either copy the d64 image as a file into the d81 image or
copy the files that are contained in the d64 image into the d81 image.
For software that directly runs from a 1581 disk you can use the file
approach: press enter on the d64 image, then press the + key on the
numeric keypad to select all files and then press F5 to copy them all
into the d81 image. For copying the whole d64 image as such, don't enter
the image but simply copy it with F5 to the d81 image. Note that this
method needs further processing of the d64 image on the C64.
- copy the d81 image to disk with 1581copy:
1581copy disk.d81 a:
(if the disk was already formatted in a 1581 drive)
- Now either use the 1581 disk directly or process the d64 image with
Pasi Ojala's gunzip.c64 (http://www.cs.tut.fi/~albert/), which will
write the image back to a real 1541 disk. This tool can also handle
zipped or gzipped d64 images, BTW.

If what you want to do is copy the *contents* of the .d64 file to a .d81, then
star commander (the beta version) does this quite well - just open the d64 file
in one window and the .d81 file in the other, highlight the desired files in
the .d64 window, and choose "copy" (I think it's F5). If you acutally want the
.d64 file to exist as a single entity in the .d81 file, I haven't tried this
but I believe you just highlight the .d64 file (with the .d81 file open in the
other window) and again choose "copy". Remember that clicking once on a d64 or
d81 file highlights it and clicking twice opens it.
