I know this is a sore subject to some, but I thought it was worth sharing:

I know I've upset a lot of people over the past few years, but I
plan to fix that problem and make things right for everyone. I
plan to start over and make 2005 a very good year for myself and
anyone else I can help.
2004 was not a very good year for me. Perhaps the worst part of
the year occured on December 9. My wife and I had an awful
experience we'll never forget.
I was in my shop finishing up working on a customer's car and was
ready to take it out for a road test. I walked over to the overhead
door and opened it and was immediately greeted by two police
officers pointing their guns at me and yelling at me to get my
hands up! I was stunned. My first reaction was that they were
chasing someone and maybe someone was around the corner of my
building that they were after. But no, they were after me. They
must have yelled 'get your hands up' at least 3 or 4 times before
it finally sank in. Ok, so up went my hands. They handcuffed me
and then 5 or 6 more officers came running around the corner of
the building. They must have had my shop surrounded.
I had no idea what was going on. They proceeded to serve me with
a search warrant to search my building. I was being accused of
robbing the local bank. This had to be some sort of a joke. But
no, they were dead serious. Bank robbery... I couldn't believe it.
With all the police cars out in front of my building now, anyone
driving by must have thought I had just been murdered or something.
They wanted to search my shop for the clothes that the robber wore,
the note he presented to the teller, and the marked bills that were
given to him.
This was a very stupid escapade. They thought my shop was also my
residence. That's how poorly their initial investigation went. So,
they also got a search warrant for my house. I've discovered just
how stupid police can be, yet they have so much power to destroy
people's lives. I've been in my current building for over 11 years,
in my house for over 10 years, and have never had a burglary or
any vandalism yet. The town my shop is in is quite safe and has a
lot of decent people living in it. I trust the community, but no
longer can I trust the local police.
I'll admit my shop is quite disorganized, but to have a half-dozen
police officers who don't care about anything go completely through
it, it became an even bigger mess. Stuff got rearranged and shuffled
around. They went through stuff in my desks. I've found 5.25 inch
disks misplaced and stuff laying on top of them. They have no clue
as to what a 5.25 disk is, obviously.
They went through customers cars, shuffling stuff around in their
trunks and gloveboxes. I had to explain to my customers what happened.
Nobody can believe how stupid the local police can be.
They dumped trash cans on the floor. They opened up boxes and emptied
them. I'll be straightening out their mess for quite some time to come.
It just isn't right.
This all started when a bank customer walked into the bank and noticed
the pictures of the robber hanging on the wall. He thought the
pictures looked like me. This person didn't even know my name, but
mentioned to the teller that the pictures looked like me. The teller
notified the detectives and they took it from there. This bank is about
300 yards from my shop next door to the local McDonald's. The robbery
happened just before noon. Any day of the week, there could be several
people eating in McDonald's who would know me. The detectives are stupid
enough to think I would come running out of the bank when there's so
many people in this small town who would recognize me. They must think
I'm stupid, but obviously the police are the stupid ones here.
They figured out that it wasn't me after all, naturally, but what
my wife and I had to go through was absolutely unbelievable. It will
affect us for many years to come. No longer will I have any respect
for the local police in this town.
I've never had a loaded gun pointed at me, let alone two of them.
Imagine what could have happened if I had been holding a wrench
in my hand. They could have easily mistaken it for a gun. They could
have easily shot me.
I'm not looking for any sympathy from anyone. All I ask is that I
be given a chance to make it up to those who I have upset. This
experience has made me sit back and think about what I've worked for
over the years and what I have and how much I should appreciate what
I can still do, and how many friends I've made over the years.
I'm going to finish up the outstanding JiffyDOS and software orders
sitting here first since they are the easiest to do. Then I'm going
to get cracking on filling all the old orders that have been waiting
for way too long. There's some hardware here waiting to be repaired
also. I'll work on those items one at a time in between other jobs
and get each one working and shipped back to their owners.
If anyone has been paying attention the past several days, you've
noticed some changes to my web site. That alone is a big indication
that I'm ready to get to work in a big way.
I'll try not to be as quiet as I have been for the past year or so.
Thanks for listening, everyone, and Happy New Year.

Interestingly enough a simular event happend to me. I was detained at
a Wendy's cause I matched the description of a Bank Robber. At least
their didn't rifle through my house.
I !*HOPE*! Maurice is getting back the C= stuff and that he we start
to see products moving once again, but that prolonged silence has done
a lot of damage to his repution and I think it's going to take some
very good word of mouth from customers to build a trust back up with
this community.
Still. I like having hope again.
Thanks Jim and Maurice.
I'm very sorry to hear about what you went through.
The police, in general, are complete morons and
couldn't care less about the public at large. They are
careless, unimaginable thugs. That's why I do not
support the police one iota, in any capacity,
whatsoever. This country has become a police state
and, very sad to say, it's only getting much worse as
time goes on. This is a very sad example of the common
police corruption, lies and destruction so often
prevelant in our society. Very sad.

It's good to see Maurice back in the community!
I had the police stormtroop my house one morning while I was
out working, scared my wife to death. (They were at all doors)
When she asked them what they wanted, they only said they
were look to arrest a "Jeff" living here. The warrant was
for a former Jeff who was to be arrested for "underage drinking"
She held them outside the door and finally got them straightened
out. (Initially, scary stuff for her, at the time we had just
moved into this area.) I had a field day with their Captain an
hour later on the phone. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.

Two thoughts:
1) Sounds like Maurice went through what must be one of everyone's
worst nightmares. Taking the story at face value it reflects bad on the
local police department, but even worse on the person who gave false
witness. however be careful of falling into the "all police are evil"
trap. I'm glad to hear Maurice came out ok.
2) I do hope Maurice can start filling orders in a timely manner. There
are several items I would like to order for myself, but I refuse to
unless I know there will be a reasonably fast turn arround. Hell I
wanted to make bulk purchases for resale last year, but never got any
responses to my inquiries...

It doesn't surprise me that he is disorganised, the way he runs his C=
business affairs.

Neither is taking people's money and not fulfilling their orders.
It a sad story but no excuse for the way he does business.
Regards,
Clockmeister.
Somebody in Denver was shot to death when police raided a
house with a warrant made out with the wrong address. Thank
God or whoever that no permanent bodily harm came your way.
I have been holding my CMD HD and RL together
with duct tape. Maybe I'll have you repair these
if I can come to trust you with my business.

You're right. Plus, his shoddy business practices long pre-date his
experience with the cops.
I suggest we take Maurice's statement for what it is. He's acknowledged
that he's done a terrible job. He's asking people to give him a chance and
he's promising to get his act together for 2005. So, it's a good start.
I'd like to do business with Maurice, but it's going to take more than one
email message saying "I'll do better" before he ever gets any of my money
again. Let's just see what happens.
I think it would be valuable for everyone if all those folks who are owed
product/money from Maurice would keep us up to date on the status of their
orders. If Maurice is sincere, people should start getting their stuff.
People waiting for JiffyDOS, especially, should start getting their orders.
People waiting for other things should be getting emails from Maurice.
Again, Maurice's message is a good first step. It's not as though he can
wave a magic wand and undo all the damage he's done. I'm anxious to see
what he does from this point.

I wouldn't send anything to that black hole until he has cleared the
backlog.
Words are cheap after all.
I don't believe he was excusing his business practices. Personally, I
this he related the story because it was the turning point in his
thinking. He trusted the police, and they let him down. While he was
grumbling about them, he realized he had let a great many people down as
well. I'm not sure I'd have wished this experience on him, but possibly
some good will come out of it.

I think Maurice has ALWAYS been a bit lax in fulfilling orders. I think
what he needs to do is clean up the backlog, and then set some
reasonable expectations for potential customers. Purists may grumble
that any business affair has certain minimums, but I know of a few side
business folks who do orders every 2 months for a week. They state it
up front, and people know what to expect. A few plainly state that
they'll fulfill the order when they get around to it, and people still
buy from those outfits. However, these outfits also don't process funds
until they build/assemble the units and ready for shipment.

I thought it was. Many of us asked for just this step, the initial
message from the owner at least acknowledging that the job is unfinished.

Yes, it would be both foolish and counterproductive to send an order at
this time, in my opinion. Even if you were correct in assuming Maurice
would fufill it, if he's overwhelmed by the backlog now, adding to it
isn't going to help. Besides, even if he works nonstop, which he can't,
the new orders are at the bottom of the list. On the other hand, if he
does start fulfilling backorders on a regular basis, and people want to
buy stuff, it'd be nice if he'd keep us up to date on the backlog (OK,
folks, I'm down to 25 orders to go, and many are JDOS chips), as you
could show your support for his efforts by ordering something new right
as he finishes his backlog.
Jim
Aye keep us posted..I'm interested in a few items from your webpage but
will hold till you get some of the backlog out of the way
Thomas
Heck I'd even build him a website where orders could be placed and tracked
online so others can see what the expected time frame would be for order
fulfilment.
Heck I'd even consider hosting it on my server .. and once the backlog is
cleared .. well then he could surprise me with a 'gift' ; ) like a SuperCPU
128 *hint hint* : D Ok, it was just a thought.
I'll put some faith in his direction because faith is good for everyone ...
except 'god' because he never clears his backlog hehe.
Seriously .. I'd do that for him.
