Hi there,

Anyone know of a source of these rare devices or, more likely still,
anyone ever emulated one with a 6502 (still available) and some
logic or a CPLD/FPGA ?

There was some mention of this in an old 64er magazine article - does
anyone
have this article ?

It'd obviously be quicker for me if someone has done it already and
knows
the minimum that is necessary.

Many thanks,

Tim.

I read an old article about speeding up the C64 twice its speed by a card
made of a 6502 and a couple of 6522. I am quite sure someone has it...As for
me, I have to dig up my CD's and I am most unlikely to find it easy. If I'll
ever find it, I will be happy to send it to your e-mail.

Meanwhile, I can suggest you to give a look at this project :

please drop me an e-mail, I would be really interested.

Riccardo

Hallo Tim,

> Anyone know of a source of these rare devices

I have quite some new 6510's and 8500's laying around.

This is the 65GZ032, developed by Gideon Zweijtser.

Thanks for the pictures, Ruud. Can you point me to some schematics or PCB
layouts of this project ? TIA

I don't think that Gideon would mind to give you the schematic. But the PCB
only contains a voltage regulator, EEPROM and a FPGA. The code to program
the FPGA is different cook.

Ruud, why Gideon didn't put his project out for public domain or for sale?
Is it a full, working package available in any way ?

It’s still in the works as far as I know.

Bloody perfectionists... :)

Public domain: Too much help can spoil things too. He has some good help.

Not yet. But the project only started three months ago. You must give us at
least some time.

FYI: we plan two versions:
- one that replaces the 6510 or 6502 itself
- a module that can be stuck in the exapnsionport of the C64/128 and...
CommodoreOne.

32-bit 6502 compatible CPU running at 33 MHz with pipeline, MMU, cache and
an onboard slot for SDRAM.... Nay, I call this modest :)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wildstar:

Absolutely. It would operate 8-Bit functions 3 times faster than the
6502 @ the same clock rate. So even at 1 Mhz it would be 3 times faster.
At 33.333333 Mhz (short 33 Mhz). It would operate 100 Times faster then
the
6502.

This isn't yet talking about 32 Bit operations. Operating 32 Bit
instructions
could yield about a 3-4 maybe 5x performance increase over a 6502.
Because
it would take a 6502 at least 4 times as many clock cycles to operate a
32-Bit
function. So this would be an INCREDIBLY faster and Amazingly more
powerful and
functional then the typical 6502 with a Very simplistic design. I am
optimistic
that it would yield 3-D rendering alot faster then the 6502.

I would figure it would be 5 times faster @ 33 Mhz then the 65c816 @ 20
Mhz.
So expect the so called impossible to become more possible then before.

* To Gideon: Keep up the good work *
