Does anybody here create any CBM games anymore? I want to know. I

People are still creating VIC-20 games, and good ones at that.

*here* don't know, there are always new stuff, just read Lemon64 and CSDb.
"Frosty the snowman II" has just been released for xmas.
A new FPS racing car preview has popped up today.
Pushover64 and Moonstone64 are always in the works, I personally chat with
the team behind them and they're constantly working on them in the spare
time, e new preview of Pushover64 is due in january.
PinballDreams64 has been stopped development for some time, but will surley
continue.
People that really want to do something just don't go asking around, they
do.

So all those games are single person projects or did they go asking
around to see if anyone wanted to team up?

Both, depends.
Frosty 2 is a one-man project, he used some 3rd party code for the tape
loader and tutorials but did everything by his own.
The others have at least one coder and one graphician, plus music done on
request.
Look for example Subhunter, Richard Bayliss coded it, teamed with Frank
Gasking doing the gfx. Drax/MoN did a superb Soundtrack for it.
Enforcer 2 now has 2 public previews, check CSDb. It is going to be a
commercial only game once finished but they still need ppl doing gfx and
music.
MagicCap, the team behind Pushover64, has one coder, one graphician, and 2
musicians. They simply knew each other on our forum and chat, the coder
simply asked who wanted to help him and they teamed up. The coder at the
time he asked, *already* had something to show, with simple gfx done by him
and a music taken from Goattracker samples. Then everything got redesigned
from scratch by the graphician and the 2 musicians.

this was cute. I love the snow and the death screams :) Thanks!

(btw, did he resource the code or code it from scratch?)

So they did a little and THEN asked around. Got it.

I was asking because I thoought this was the best way to advertize my
GameCartVic program. It will help programmmers create tile-based
Vic-20 games under cc65/ca65. When finished, I plan to port it to the
C64 and perhaps the NES and the Apple 2. Anybody interested?

Ideas and plans don't count. Show something done.

The corollary to that is that the people who end-up spending too much time
in usenet end-up getting frustrated because they can't seem to get anything
done:)

PS - I bet after you sent that you looked at your watch and said quietly to
yourself "What a waste of time!"

1. I see this all the time. But they don't work with other people who need
to ask alot of questions to do simple things. These people are called
"peers":)

You can't be lazy or noisy to be a peer either.

2. And you've got to admit that it takes years of quiet study and doing to
learn enough to be competent enough to program a simple application that
people will use.

3. And if people don't want it, you need to just do it for yourself and have
fun doing it.

Look at my ClipShop program which is my most complicated failure peoplewise
and my my most enjoyable programming effort:

http://www.clipshop.ca/

The 3 pillars above apply in general. But they are a 3 legged stool.

4. You need to be a real hardcore gamer to write a game. Otherwise it will
be lame. People that spend lots of time in lists instead of playing games
and writing them will never be taken seriously by their peers.

And people like me who feed the trolls hoping they will evolve will always
receive private mail asking me not to:)

I can't abide this attitude. Sure, it's easy to say "show us something
finished, then we'll talk..." but what about just giving some advice?

The dev plan for a program, be it a game or application, should be discussed
first, to see what users will want in such a program.

Discussion is NOT meaningless. Ideas and plans aren't meaningless. Without
both, you will NEVER see something done.

The other side of the coin, of course, is that vaporware doesn't count.
Until you CAN show something done, it's all talk. But talk is NOT useless,
and DOES count.

There. That's the opinion of a professional game developer, as well as a
hobbyist game developer.

Sean.

Just Google for "Joseph Rose" on comp.sys.cbm and you will quickly
understand all this guy has ever done, in the past and present, is utterly
wasting people's time.

He just came back with an alias because his real name is as spoiled as it
gets. He's just another member of the Oregon connection, whose most notable
figure is, obviously, the "wild star"...

Lookup his name on Google and save your time filtering him right out of the
bat.

Give it a break Riccardo. I did however have done pixeling work for Retro64.
Enough said. Leave me out of this Joseph Rose bone-head conversation.

I'm just not all that interested in coding or pixeling so much because it
just takes too much of my time that I don't have anymore and whenever I do
try to do this stuff, all I get is a bunch of ration of shit for doing any
of this in my life with the people in my life of the internet OR they start
slamming me with a bunch of "HELP ME WITH MY COMPUTER" problems to the point
that it no longer is enjoyable.

It takes a certain amount of patience to do this stuff but you also need to
have people who are supportive in your life and not constantly give you a
ration of shit for programming for something that doesn't give you any
financial benefit. At this point in life, I can't be doing stuff for free or
all I get is a ration of shit EVERY SINGLE time.

I don't like to explain myself here so please take a chill pill.

Laters Riccardo.

I'm not going to debate Retro64 issues here. All I can say is the matters
were resolved and I have already talked with Fuzz. This was more or less
caused by my computer being down for two months and no net connection.

Now that said, I'm not debating that topic with you.
