I have an actual BeOS pressed CD, R5.0 that I thought I would install on a
partition on my main computer. I admire BeOS and read about it, say it
demoed over the years and such. Managed to use it as an awesome diagnostic
tool in the past, but I am not a "Be user" and as such do not know what I
am doing.
I just thought it would be neat to have as many alternative OSs as I
could on my overly large hard drive. :-)
However, when I put the disc in and reboot the computer, it shows the
BeOS title screen for a few seconds then reboots the computer. This
continues until the CD is removed.
Could someone please tell me if it is hopeless to install Be on a more
modren machine? I didn't expect it to have drivers for everything or
performance to be that great on a newer machine, but I figured it would
boot up and basically work. Are we past the point where Be can figure out
a BIOS/CPU and DVD-ROM drive?
Thanks.

The original BeOS will have problems booting on a recent CPU - Check out
http://mmadia.zelect.org/files/boot_archive/ to get a floppy boot image to
start up BeOS. Once booted it is possible to install BeOS and the boot image
on your hard drive so it boot completely from the partition.
Otherwise go to www.bebits.com and look for the BeOS 5 PE Max to get you
started. Since you have the 5.0 BeOS disk and it can be upgraded to 5.03 you
can go either way. Check out:

Hope that helps.

Thank you, very, very much.
I think that's your problem right there. Try taking out some of the
memory and try again.
