RESULT
comp.sys.be.announce will be removed

The Last Call for Comments (LCC) on 04 Apr 2007 initiated a five-day period
for final comments. Following the comment period, the Big-8 Management Board
has decided by consensus to remove the newsgroup comp.sys.be.announce.

This group will be removed on 23 Apr 2007.

RATIONALE: remove comp.sys.be.announce

The last approved message was in December 2000. Any announcements
about legacy BeBox hardware and BeOS software may be made in the
unmoderated groups of the comp.sys.be.* hierarchy.

HISTORY:

The newsgroup comp.sys.be.announce was created in February 1997 as
part of the reorganization of the comp.sys.be.* (CSB) hierarchy, that
included creation of CSB.announce, CSB.advocacy, CSB.help,
CSB.programmer, and CSB.misc (rename of comp.sys.be).

The group did not have an active moderator until July 1997, after
which began a period of regular approvals of 2 or 3 per month, which
lasted until April 1998. Approvals were quite rare until August 1999,
when the moderator announced that he was spending some time figuring
out what wasn't working with the moderation software. From then until
December 2000, approvals were fitful, with 0, 1, or 2 approvals per
month.

The last approval was in December 2000. Over its active life, there
were about 100 approvals.
