It was actually written by Bell Labs and is basically a custom
'distribution' (if you'd like) specifically made for running the COSMOS
interface. You posted on the 3b1 group and I'm positive that it was never
run on the 3b1. It was run on the 3B5/15/20 systems, but only at RBOCs
because they were already installed. I don't know for sure, but I would
think that COSNIX's life span (from development to decomission) would have
been 79-95.
Actually, that is a very intelligent assumption. What you have just
said in your theory is actually QUITE MORE TRUE than what a lot of
"educated" people on the net have been saying for years.
A lot of people SAY that COSMOS hasn't been used since the 80s. I
don't know the EXACT end date but it HAD TO BE aftter that because
Southwestern Bell was still using COSMOS heavily in 1998, which may
sound impossible
to some, but is simply true.
It might have been COMPLETELY phased out when ss7 came in, but that
doesn't mean we should forget about it, it means we must just discuss
what information has become available about it here on this thread.
Are you able to give a detailed contrast between WHAT IS COSMOS and
WHAT IS COSNIX. I don't need specific commands, I need concrete
information like EXACT hardware compatibility list for COSNIX (and
minimum hardware requirements), as well as how the abstract "COSMOS"
is translated into the more concrete "COSNIX."
