What do each of the DIP switches do on the Mega STe? I have asked this before
but nobody seems to know. What settings are "normal"? I have a high density
disk drive, which DIP switch is that and where should it be set?

Does anybody know what the DIP switches control? I have moved them around with
no noticable difference.

Thanks,

One of them is to disable the DMA sound capabilities and one of them is
to enable a `high-density' button in the desktop's format routine, but
don't ask me which one! :-(

6 or 7 (it's one on the MEGA STE and the other on the TT :-)
But then you need AJAX, HD-drive and a strap next to the 68882 socket
(my oldest MEGA STE didn't have this strap -> no 1.44 drive option..)

DIP 7 is the one you want for the HD floppy, and it should be set towards the
back of the case (i.e. different to all the others)

As to the rest of them... I look forward to more knowlegable replies!

Dip switch #7 on the MSTE controls whether the built-in floppy is 'seen' as a
720k or 1.44 meg. One of the other switches alows a second SCSI drive to run
from the internal HA.

Is there anyone out there having a complete list of the dip switches in
the MSTE?

Tell me more - This sounds interesting....
I thought the SCSI interface only could handle one SCSI device ?
And I could have need for one more (CD-ROM or streamer)

The author of Transendence BBS informed me of this several months back. Why
you would want to is another matter. Seems much simplier to just purchase a
larger drive. A tape or CD ROM comes to mind,

This is nonsense, of course. The Mega STE internal host adaptor can handle
ONE SCSI device, no more. No DIP switch, neither on the HA, nor on the
Mega STE, can change this behaviour.

If I may add another 'of course': This is of course only true for the
original Atari SCSI host adaptor. Other adaptors, handling up to eight
SCSI devices are available from plenty of sources.

But I guess I missed something of interest to me. What is this about
those DIP switches in the MEGA/STE and the TT? What do they do? No need
to elaborate here again, if this has already happened, but a pm to me
shedding some light onto this topic will be welcome.

Happy new 1994!

Boy, what nonsense do these guys tell...

The jumper strap next to the 6888_1_ socket is to be removed when a 68881
is installed. When there's none, remove a certain resistor.

Fact is, there are some VERY EARLY MegaSTE units that can't handle HD
drives due to a bug in the PCB layout. Early MegaSTEs also didn't have the
68881 jumper, but these two things have nothing to do with each other.

Only thing you can do is change the unit number with the switches
on the internal adaptor.
