I Have Abandoned All Hopes For The Ultra Satan Drive!!! The Main Advantage To
The Ultra Satan Drive Is Virtually No Moving Parts! So It May Never Wear Out!
But For Me, The Overwhelming Disadvantages: 1) Does Not Use SCSI Hard Drives!
So I Cant Attach My SCSI Hard Drives,So I Cant Transfer My Files From My Hard
Drives To The Secure Digital Drives! That Means I'll Have To Move My Files To
The Ultra Satan Drive Using 3.5" Floppies!Disadvantage 2) Since I Cant Hookup
SCSI Devices, I Cant Use My SCSI CD ROM, My SCSI CD Writer Or Even My SCSI
Flat Bed Full Color Scanner! And For Me, The Last Disadvantage 3) All My Atari
ST Computers Use TOS v.1.4 Operating System!Ultra Satan Needs A Newer Version
Of TOS Than My TOS v.1.4 Or it May Lose Data!So For Now, I'm Sticking To My 1
GigaByte SCSI HardDrive,At Least Until The Bugs Are Worked Out For TOS v.1.4!

Ben, I use an Ultrasatan with TOS 1.04 on my STacy. I'm not aware of any
data loss problems?

Can you provide links to what you are referring to? Thanks.

Not sure I understand. I have my ste connected to the ultra satan, then
to a link then to a cr/cw drive then to a zip drive. I don't seem to
have any trouble transfering files back and forth.

Ben, I'd go to AtariForum or AtariAge (or both) and post this problem in
those places.

Lots of knowledgeable people there will try to help you.

Some people prefer not prehistoric storage devices :-)
And is not correct that TOS 1.04 may causing data loss. It will be
rather age of your beloved Atari.

I've Data Mined The Info About The Data Corruption! I'm Sorry To Report I Was
Wrong! Data Corruption Had To Do With Transfer Between DOS & TOS Formats!
The Information And The Link Are Directly Below!

http://joo.kie.sk/ultrasatan/faq.html

Question:

Do you have a preference for running UltraSatan with either (a) an Atari STE
with (Tos 1.62/2.06) or (b) an STFM (Tos 1.4)?

Answer:

I would recommend using a machine with the newest TOS, so my choice would be
STE with TOS 2.06, or at least 1.62. Older TOS versions have trouble (or are
unable) to access SD/MMC cards formated with TOS & DOS compatibility (for easy
data transfer between PC and Atari), they are slower in hard-drive access and
some have fatal bugs which cause the partition losses on hard-drives or data
corruption.

That's pretty much general blah, even if is done by designer of
UltraSatan self. Yes, TOS 1.04 is little slower, but you will hardly
even notice 1% less speed. Fatal data bugs stay mostly for TOS 1.02 .
And it is not like that they happen often. Actually, they happen only
at some specific circumstances. By normal usage, when not opening too
much files and folders even TOS 1.02 is reliable. But TOS 1.04 is
much better. TOS 1.62 is in fact 99% same as 1.04 - it is just
expanded with STE specific things. Filesystem part is same as in
1.04 , Actually, if you have some ST, Mega ST, you can not go
simple on 2.06 - need additional logic for new TOS space. I have Mega
ST and ST 1024 equipped with TOS switch and can use any TOS in range
1.00 - 2.06 (1.62 is STE only, so not it, but have STE with) . It is
not true that TOS/DOS compatible partitioning works not with 1.04. It
works. And myself made multipartition TOS/DOS compatible hard disk
driver, etc.

TOS switch, with in circuit programming option (Flash ROM) :
