So for at least one of my homebrews I wanted to get a spare POKEY or two:
Best combination sound chip, keyboard interface, serial interface, ~ADC,
chip ever made. Of course it is the only combination sound chip, keyboard
interface, serial interface, ~ADC, chip ever made
There's some old post floating around that said the 7800 carts that were
labeled "Super Game Cartridge" have the POKEY chip in them so I fleabayed
two KARATEKA carts on the cheap. Smashed one of the carts apart and no POKEY
to be found. I guess the Super part just means it has the ability to hold
48k of ROM as that is tagged on the circuit board.
I think I may have a 7800 floating around => not a total waste if I can find
it. If someone needs a slightly smashed and superglued back together
KARATEKA cart for free let me know as I have a spare. There are some solder
splashes on it, looks like one of the previous owners may have pulled the
ROMs to copy or something, but nothing serious.
Ballblazer 7800 may have a POKEY in it but I may give up the ghost on buying
7800 carts. POKEY chips are available from both B&C and BEST, I just balk at
paying $10 plus another $6-$10 for shipping. It's not a deal breaker since I
still have a bunch of 8bits I can 'borrow' a POKEY out of.
