I have an Atari800 that is showning some strange memory problems.

I have a number of memory cards (512K Magna, 32K Mosaic, and a bunch of
standard 16K cards).

When I run the SALT memory test when 3x16K cards are installed, it shows
only 40K of memory is installed (no there isn't a cart in there). Running
the same test on a virtual 800 in Atari800WinPlus shows 48K.

I've tried rearranging the 3 16K cards and regardless of the config it only
shows 40K installed.

Running the RAM test in this config shows all the 40K as OK, But the main
screen just doesn't see the extra 8K. Is there anything on the motherboard
that might cause this problem (aside from 1 or more bad RAM cards).

Running the tests of my 32K Mosaic or 512K Magna cards are consistently
showing RAM errors, so I'm ignoring that at this point and just trying to
find out what is wrong with the setup.

Thanks.

I was gonna say that Basic is in that area but I see that you have no
carts in it. Does the DOS you are using set flags so you cant use that
section of RAM (mark it as ROM?) even if there is no ROM there?

What are you running SALT from, disk or cart??

I'm not using a DOS in this case. It's an autoboot disk image I'm using.

The really wierd thing is that I am using the same disk image from
Atari800WinPlus (which shows 48K), and the real 800 (showing 40K) via APE.

From a disk image.

Not a lot of help but 40k to me implies the cartridge detection and
memory remapping has probably gone south. That is, something like an IC
fried in the cartridge present mode which would make that 8k invisible.

thnx,

Hi,

Method 2 is a little involved but.... disassemble the entire computer.

Slightly pry up all socketed chips.

Push back down

Reassemble and test.

What is method 1? Pick up and drop from 2" onto a hard surface.
