Hello. Are there ways of transferring Atari 8-bit Games to PC? I
have a ton from the 80's on floppies. I wanna play them on my pc.
Can i do it? If so, how?

Hmm.. Lemme see.
Get a APE interface and cables.
Use disk communicator by Bob Puff to
make a .DCM file of your floppy.
Use imagic by Steve Tucker to make
.ATR out of the DCM file.
Now you can load and play your .ATR
on an emulator, I prefer Atari800winplus,
but there are others.
There may be a direct disk to .ATR maker.
The key is the APE/SIO2PC interface.
There's probably other ways. For instance
there are archives that have about every game
made. There are still vendors that will sell
you any game you want.

thanks for the info. Will dig deeper, and see if i can find the
easiest way. I wanna play Joust! I have a 130xe and a 1050 drive,
and could get out the disk and play, but would rather play on the
pc.

Ah. The easiest way to play joust on pc is
download the joust .ATR or file and play it
on an emulator, forget APE.
You can find Joust at Vietnam site. You might
have to fiddle with Imageman or Xdir to get
the joust file onto an .ATR.
If you have an original Joust disk, it would
be problematic getting that protected disk
over to a .PRO image. And I don't think
emulators use .PRO images.
The ATR image is a file for emulating an
Atari disk.

zaxxon, etc. damn! what nostalgia!! i just have Joust as an .exe.
Will need to get out the 130xe and 1050 later today, and see if i can
convert some games to .ATR.

thanks!

Hi.

You can find .ATR images of just about any Atari 8-bit game on the web.
So all you'd need is to download Atari800win.

Go here:
http://www.atarimania.com/detail_soft.php?MENU=8&VERSION_ID=2690

Download "joust.zip". Unzip it to "joust.rom". In Atari800Win, choose
"File -> Attach Cartridge". Pick joust.rom.
Pick standard cartridge (default). Start playing!!!

You can download AtariWin800 4.0 from: http://www.a800win.atari-area.prv.pl/

My apologies. Don't go to that Vietnam site.
It has adware and maybe other malware.
www.atarimania.com is OK. Then there's
the ftp site ftp.pigwa.net probably hard to navigate, but has lots of
stuff.

I tried Joust. The binary load ones I found
wouldn't work in atari800winplus 3.1.
I finally got Joust to work from a download
from the Vietnam site, which didn't seem to
be loading stuff and poping up a 'adware downloader' program this time.
You can try the Vietnam site, I guess it is
OK. There's a Joust.ATR there.
http://vjetnam.hopto.org/

The game isn't much fun with the emulator keyboard
joystick emulation, but I don't know how you'd get
a PC joystick working.

The ftp.pigwa.net site is difficult to navigate, unless
you know which directories to go to. I think
goto 'stuff' 'collections' 'holmes cd' then you can
find atari executables and atrs. Best would be
if there's a index for Holmes there to search before
you start hunting.

hi. I am having trouble with Atari800Win Plus. It keeps on giving an
error, saying that "A ROM load error prevented ATari800Win Plus from
booting, you should check the ROM Settings under "Atari/Rom Images"
menu. Then i go there, input joust as a cartridge, and click ok.
Then it keeps going back to that error again. Got any ideas?

You don't have the system ROMs,
BASIC, OSA, OSB, XL/XE.
http://ftp.pigwa.net/stuff/collections/holmes%20cd/Holmes%202/PC%20Atari%20Emulators%20Old/index.html
atariroms.zip

Lemme see. That probably won't copy and paste.

stuff/collections/holmes cd/pc atari emulators old/atariromx.zip

You need ataribas.rom, atariosa.rom and atarixl.rom and put them in a ROM
directory in your
atari800winplus directory.

I believe that is a ROMS directory, not ROM.
Maybe there is a documentation to atari800winplus 3.1?

roms directory. the atariroms.zip is at the
bottom of the pigwa url I give, not in alphabet order.
It has the ones you need, the atarixl.rom, ataribas.rom and atariosa.rom.
Probably won't use the 800 ROMs (atariosa.rom and atariosb.rom).
Then there's a 5200 ROM too, but I haven't used that.

so inside the folder for Atari800win plus, there should be a folder
named "ROM"? Then i should put the 3 ROMS in the atarirom.zip file
inside that "ROM" folder?

please clarify. thanks

Right. ROMS or roms folder inside the
folder you put the a800wp in.

Yes, good luck. You're just getting started,
which takes some time and effort.

What error are you getting? Can you get
the BASIC READY prompt?

If you want to emulate a real Atari experience, you can get
Stelladapter, which lets you connect Atari 8-bit joysticks to PC USB. :)

That reminds me ...
