This comes up so many times so I'm sorry to raise it again but I seem to be
going in circles here! Is it possible to get ATR images onto disks so that they
are bootable given;

a 1050 drive with US Doubler fitted
an Atari XE with 64K ram

I have no problems being able to read disks written on a PC using MyDos on the
Atari, but I can't find a way of getting the contents of an ATR image
transferred to a 'normal' disk using the Atari.

Any pointers would be much appreciated, many thanks!

I've heard mention of a MS-Dos program called mule (not the game) that 'may'
be able to copy an ATR file to an atari fromated double density floppy on a
PC Floppy drive that 'may' be bootable of a US doubled 1050.

I have not had the equipment to try untill recently and i'm having fun
putting it all together between other projects so i can't say if it works or
not (or where to get it!) and proberbly won't be looking untill a back log
of other 'life stuff' gets sorted.

Anyone here care to coment on the program or any other methods not involving
the ritual slaughter of an SIO cable? ;0)

You could try using my WriteAtr program (available from my homepage
http://www.horus.com/~hias/atari/ ).

But note: it only works with double density (256 bytes per sector)
ATR images - most ATRs you find on the 'net are SD or ED.

so long,

Hias

you need to convert the ATR into a DCM on the PC side using a number of
utilites out there. Steven Tucker wrote an excellent one (called Imagic,
IIRC). Anyhow, copy the DCM to a DD disk on the PC, then on the Atari, boot
to MyDOS or Sparta and run DiskCommunicator to convert the DCM to a real
Atari disk. DiskCommunicator can be found at
http://www.nleaudio.com/css/Files.htm

DiskCommunicator seems to be an OBJ file. Does this run directly or does it
have to be compiled with something?

You should load it with MyDOS by using the L command.

I use Hias' AtariLink to put .ATR files onto DD MyDos diskettes with the PC
5.25 and made a quick Atari Basic program to write the image onto a SD disk.
This little utility is on my site as ATR2ENH about 1/3 of the way down. It
will do enhanced 1040 sector images or error out and stop after #720 on
standard SD. Only caveat is the expectation of 2 drives (I use a ramdisk) as
I never wrote the disk swapping code. Swapping requires some POKEing to the
DCB and a USR( call to toggle the drive from SD to DD for each pass. We can
update it if you want or need to...
