This has been talked about and I thought I saw someone post
about 3 months ago about doing just that.
Remember, I am taking this just from memroy: I beleive the person
just used the normal RS232.COM file and a normal Atari Term program like
BOBTERM. Seems like they could run up ot 9600 Baud but at 14.4 they
started dropping bytes and getting garbage here-and-there in the display.

APE provides complete 850 compatible R: emulation, at speeds upto 56kbps.

Get APE at http://www.nacs.net/~classics :)

Thank you. I have tested APE (the version from the ATARI-CD-ROM) and I think
it is a good tool for connecting the ATARI XL to the PC.
But what I want to do is:
Connecting a modem to the ATARI XL *without* useing the PC.

Sorry, that I forgot to mention that.

Which modem? If it's an XM301 or SX212, then you'd need an SIO splitter
that allows 2 "end-of-chains", because these modems have only one SIO
port. If it's a modem connected to an 850 interface, then the 850 (with
its 2 SIO ports) would be connected between your computer and the APE
cable. I hope this helps.
