About the 'hi' and 'lo' feature. My assumption is that
the Rob C menu program's game loader has to reside
somewhere in memory and there is a risk that the game
code itself overwrites the loader before the loading
is complete.
If a game does not work with the 'lo' menu
alternative, one could try to create a meny disk with
the 'hi' menu. Likewise, a game that does not work
with the 'hi' menu may work with the 'lo' menu.
In theory there is a risk that a game would overwrite
both of these areas. But it should always be possible
to write a small loader that fits somewhere in
memory together with the game during the loading
process. It is also possible to re-write ('hack'?)
games so they do not interfer memory-wise with the
loader.

He was from Liverpool (well at one point), a few of us used to connect
on our 300baud modems and one of the peeps was Rob C himself. Never
spoke to him myself but I gather he was a nice enough bloke (for a
hacker).
And not all hackers were kids, most of the EA titles got hacked by a
person called The Mole. He was a Doctor at that point and is now in
charge of a local Health authority..
Strange world :-)

. Never argue with an idiot, they bring you down to their level
and then beat you with experience
Correct me if I am wrong but I think he went on to become "Was (Not Was)" on
the Atari ST, responsible partly for the LSD/Automation menu disks?
Tis true I believe
