Enjoy!
Nice. Very professional-looking site... if only I had a few spare days
to go through it all ;-)

Thanks! I think there are something like 550-600 images altogether. I
stopped counting. Over time, I'll add more specific information about
each computer, if I can any that is. Some of those clones are really
obscure, and probably some of them are entirely out of existence by now.
BTW, there is something weird going on with the Basis 108 file menus on
the side bar. If it acts up, just hit refresh a couple of times and
it'll display correctly. I think there's a missing "?" somewhere in the
image module PHP code.
Very nice site. I had no idea that there were that many clones built. What's
the advantage of creating a user acount? Is this just for the message
forums? Thanks.

Thanks for the compliment. I honestly appreciate it. I wanted to build a
site that people would like and use, but one never knows if people will
like it or not. So far, people have said good things about it, and that
feels pretty good.
As for registering at the site, yes, you do need it to join the forums
but you also need it if you want to upload images or files to the site.
You don't have register to view the pics or download the existing files,
though. The user account is only useful if you want to do do something
other than browse or download. There aren't any hidden "members only"
areas, or anything like that.

Thanks. It's surprising isn't it. I knew there were a bunch of different
clones, but I never tried to count them before building the site.
Looking for new clones is kind of like a treasure hunt to me, and they
just keep popping up. It's a fun hobby.

I agree! I knew only about the Franklin and the Laser before I found
the Internet XD
-uso.
It's amazing to do mail merge in Wordstar running CPM and
printing on a Epson MX-80. And did some useful book keeping
on Multiplan. UCSD Pascal was an amazing programming
environment, boot it, you had to swap a few diskettes,
compile a program, you had to fiddle a few more.
And my schoolmates were crazy to work on undocumented M/C of
6502 and 65C02. We did had a hacker's file circling with
many tricks explored by game developers. CALL -151, and go.
Apple ][ was fun to play with, say, how to draw a line on
the hi-res screen!
Thank you for making the Apple2clones.com!

Nice job!!
Apple ][ clones are so interesting, each one has a particular different from
the other, each one has his own story, fascinating.

Thanks! 1000bit is great, too. You have a very large amount of
information on old computers. I go there all the time.
I agree with you about the fascinating stories, but most old computers
have interesting stories behind them. What I like about these old clones
is that the stories are not as well known. The Franklin Ace was a very
popular computer but how many people know the story behind the company?
Speaking of the story behind Franklin, it just so happens that I'm going
to be doing an informal interview with at least one (possibly two) of
the first software guys hired by Franklin. I'm sure that there will be a
few surprises, and interesting bits of triva discovered.
Also, I have a complete history of Basis Computers, start to finish, that
I'll be adding to the site also. One of my projects for the year is to
try to track down former employee's of some of these old companies, and
try to collect their stories. I think it would be interesting to hear
what it was really like back then, from the insiders so to speak.
Oh, I also used to work with one of the Mimic Spartan developers, and he
agreed to let me do an email interview about life a Spartan. From what
he told me, there is definitely an fun story behind their abrupt
closure. He has one of the original wire-wrap prototype Spartans too,
and I'm sure he'll let me photograph it for the site.

Thank you!! :-))
[fascinating stories]
Yeah, this is the thing I like most: the people behind the company.
Actually I am trying to find out the people behind Selcom (the Lemon clone,
ok it isn't the right name for the US market, but in italy it's ok :-)).
I have also written to Bob Frankstone (Visicalc) and to other first italian
software developer, beacause I am really interested in people more than the
computer itself.
So, I am really interested in all the stories about Franklin, Basis and
Spartan, come on Ernest I am waiting you :-))
