I downloaded this image a while ago, from Alex Lee's What is the Apple IIGS site, and have been using it in Sweet 16 on my Mac. Yesterday I decided to put it on my flash drive and load it up on the CFFA3000 on my real GS. To my surprise, instead of the System 6.0.1 desktop, I was looking at a selector, Taifun Selector if I remember right, that offered me the chance to run System 6.0.1, System 5.0.4, System 4.0, Prodos 16 v1.6 or Prodos 8 v2.0.3. You also have the option of adding more systems, deleting systems and other options I don't remember at the moment.

I don't understand why there is this difference in how the hard drive image boots. In fact on the real GS once you select any of the GS/OS's and get to the desktop you can open the drive and see the other system folders. In Sweet 16, on the desktop, all you see in the hard drive you simply see the folders for System 6.0.1.

This is useful for the rare GS game that needs an older operating system, such as Softdisk Adventure Machine, from Softdisk GS. Has anyone else discovered this interesting little tidbit?

Nope, I have not.
I've played several times with Alex' images with Sweet16 but never used it on my CFFA card (the 2k, the 3k is still in itx box)

Hi guys,

There are actually TWO separate images hard drive images that are
bootable on 'What is the Apple IIGS?' The plain System 6.0.1 image with
freeware and shareware games is:

http://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.za/files/harddrive_image.zip

And the one with Taifun Boot and the multiple versions of GS/OS is here:

http://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.za/files/System_Boot_and_Free_Games.zip

I haven't updated the Taifun Boot version for quite a while, but yes,
the benefit is that you can boot to any version of GS/OS to easily
access games or apps that are very specific as to which OS they'll run
from.

Just remembered one other detail – the Taifun Boot image will only work
with ROM01 machines.

Thanks for the info Alex, that explains why the differences in booting between the real GS and Sweet 16. My real GS is a ROM 01 and I'm running Sweet 16 as a ROM 03.
