Hello all! I just got an Apple2 gs with a disk drive and monitor. I just
wanted a few tips if anyone can refresh my memory as to how to:
Enter the Bios/Setup (I think it's applekey+something)
Load old Basic programs. Can I use Appleworks to do this?
Any other tips? Can I use PC drives with some software to read/copy apple 2
disk images readable by apples?

Man, it's been like 10 yrs. Thanks!

Mark

Dumb question? Didn't you read Apple II FAQS first?

Bios/Setup??? Do you mean Control Panel? Press and Hold Open
Apple-Control-ESC. It will bring you back to Control Panel screen.

Load old Basic programs? Do you mean that you want to load BASIC
programs from Apple II Diskette? You have to use DOS 3.3 Master Diskette
before you can be able to LOAD/SAVE BASIC programs into memory.
You can use any version of AppleWorks on Apple IIgs. Apple IIgs is
backwards compatible to Apple II.

No, you can't, but another option is that you can. In fact is that
Apple's Disk II Family will not be able to read/write PC diskettes because
Disk II Family is designed to use GCR encoding format. PC Disk Family is
designed to use MFM encoding format. There is an alternative option that
you can be able to hook up PC drives (1.44MB/1.2MB) into Apple II by using
BlueDisk controller card (from ///SHH Systeme, Germany. You can be able to
format ProDOS and MS-DOS on PC drives through BlueDisk controller card.
Also, DOS 3.3 can be formatted unless it is patched to work with BlueDisk
controller card.
You can use Peter Watson's software to transfer the files and images
between Apple II Drives and BlueDisk's PC Drives back and forth. I have
been using it so far and I am happy with it.

There is a lot of valuable info in the faq. Find it here:

http://home.swbell.net/rubywand/A2FAQs1START.html

The best methods of getting software over to your IIgs are:
1. Null modem cable and ADT or com software. See the faq for details on ADT.
2. A Mac that can write to 800K disks. See the faq for details.

I will be more than happy to get you the BlueDisk and
also provide you with barebone drives ( you get cases ).
Check them out on my site. I am ordering from them on
April 4th. Thanks.
