Hi again,

Looking for anyone who knows the actual release date for the Novation CAT acoustic modem. This is NOT the Apple-CAT II direct connect modem that came out in 1981, this is the acoustic one that was not only sold by Novation directly but was also rebranded for Atari, TI, Tandy, and others (including Apple).

My notes had at some point gotten 1980 as the release date for this, but it must have come out sooner than that. The "Modem IIA" was in Apple's price lists as early as Feb 1979, and the Modem IIB was advertised in "The Personal Computer Magazine & Catalog, Vol 1, No 2" from Apple later in 1979, and the Modem IIB is pictured, showing the Novation CAT style.

From this, I presume the Novation CAT was available AT LEAST in 1979, and I'm guessing in 1978.

Does anyone have a better date than that?

As always, thanks!

Actually, I found the Modem IIA in the June 1978 price list, so it was potentially available sooner.

THere was a Novation modem for the Apple reviewed in Byte, I'm not sure if
it's what you are looking for, but it was "primitive" compared to what
came later. I think somebody has at least put an index to Byte up, and
that might help to put a date on things (though not exactly).

Several Byte magazines are available at http://archive.org/details/computermagazines
Scroll down through the "Sub-Collections", there's "BYTE Magazine" and "BYTE Magazine Rescans" (not sure why there are two sections). Click on one, then scroll down through the description of the magazine to the "All items (most recently added first)" link, click on that, then under "Sort results by:" click on "Date". That'll give you the magazines in order by date.

Thanks for the leads; I'll check in BYTE.
