Not trying to start a flame war or anything: how do you figure that a
640x480x256 display is better than, oh let's say, 800x600x65536 or
640x480x16.7 million display? It *might* look better/as good if you are
displaying dithered pictures like GIF (which is limited to 256 anyway,)
but not when you display things like Jpegs.

My feelings exactly, Thye Chean. Had the TurboRez come out last year,
I would not have moved on to the 486 (at least, it would have been less
likely). And now that I've heard Steve Chiang is no longer doing updates
to DreamGrafix (a natural candidate for supporting the TurboRez,) I really
wonder how useful and successful TurboRez will be.
Oh, btw: John C. Dvorak screwed up on his tirade on the Apple II. He wrote
that "Western Digital" developed the 16-bit version of the 6502. BZZZZ!!!
Wrong! As we all know, Western Design Center developed the 65816, not
Western Digital, the hard drive maker. Hmmm, maybe we should all flood his
email box and flame him about that! Tell him to at least have the
intelligence to get his facts straight if he is going to flame something.

Not trying to flame you or anything :-), but if you want to avoid flame
wars, you should try your damnest to see things as if they were not what
your first instincts tell you. In this case, I don't interpret Thy
Chean the way you seem to. Actually, I don't think anyone in their right
mind could say an 8-bit picture can rival a 16- or more-bit picture; the
only context in which TC's comment makes sense is that he's comparing
two identical resolutions.

Jim, I am not comparing 640 x 480 x 256 with display higher. Of course, if
you own those Super VGA or XGA stuffs, it *might* look better. I am comparing
it with the 640 x 480 x 256 colours of PC. One thing is, I don't see the
square pixels that I so used to see on the PC and the colours seem a little
richer. It is similar to compare the GS 320 mode pictures with MCGA mode. On
the GS, the jazzy is not as obvious and it does seem better.

My opinion is, I might get a PC myself with CD-ROM too. I am so amazed by the
CD-ROM games of PC. So I might get a PC just to play that. But I too know
that I don't exactly *need* a computer, perhaps because of my job nature
that I am already using computers far better than the PC. All I need is a
*hobby*, and using GS is my hobby. So is collecting new software and hardware
for GS. I do love these.
I am not sure about what you said about Steven Chiang. This is not exactly what
he told me. He is just busy with his studies at the moment. And I am still
the beta tester of v1.1. I think there is about 50% chance we can see a
TurboRez version of DreamGrafix if TR arrives soon.
By the way, does you know that TurboRez comes with its own software such as
a painting program and a GIF converter? The painting program I saw at that
time was not yet done, but half of the features work and it does look cool.

First, I am Thye Chean, not Thy Chean. :)
And yes, you are right. I am comparing two identical resolution. The pixels
of TR is round, and looks less jaggy; and the colours look richer.

Richard Wifall - Have you ever sent a fax from your AppleIIgs? You will!
rwi...@nmsu.edu - but the company that will bring it to you is not AT&T
Writing Super Nintendo games! :)
I was one of the guys who helped hawk the TurboRez GS in its protostate at the
Boston AppleExpo, um, two years ago? It's a solid card; I don't know whether
or not Bill's changing the design but it only required a few jumpers to the
motherboard.. its signal COEXISTS with standard Apple RGB video. Better than a
Video Overlay card, IMHO.. only problem was the blended signal only came out of
that card last I remembered.
I'll talk to bill again and see what's up.
Rumor also has it that Animasia 3D is also being presently worked very
hard on, and will support TurboRez..
