Hi,

I plan to spent some bucks on iPhone games as my kids are all now
addicted to this platform. It seems that there are now plenty of retro
games on iPhone from Space Invaders to Missile Command, I wonder
whether anybody know of any Apple II games out there (perhaps by some
old Apple II developers?)

I can think of Tetris, but the iPhone version does not look like the
Apple IIGS version. I am also waiting for Arkanoid, Marble Madness,
Zany Golf, but none are available. Anybody got any good find?

Thanks!

There's no // emulator on iphone yet -- but you can get NES, Mame and
Genesis emulators pretty easily if you unlock your phone and install
Cydia. :-)

I don't find the touchscreen very conducive for game control -- you're
better off with a DS for the kids. Subsequently, there are TWO apple
2 emulators available on DS now (POM DS by Alek Maul and Apple ][ go
by Grizzly Adams)

> I can think of Tetris, but the iPhone version does not look like the Apple IIGS version.

-- The //gs version doesn't look like any of the others that I know
of. Tetris plays mostly well via the NES emulator, but it's a bit
sluggish (the NES emulator is a bit sluggish in general).

>I am also waiting for Arkanoid

-- Plays on iphone via mame, but is really sluggish with sound
enabled. Also, control is over-sensitive. DS version plays very
well.
> Marble Madness
-- Tried but didn't have a working rom... aparently. Probably will
be slower since it's a more advanced CPU, so most likely would play
like a slideshow.

Anyway, you could always rig a portable // setup and lug that around
wherever you go. Great for building superhero-like strength. :-D

Thanks for your advice, but this is not what I am looking for. :)

I am looking for games that I can actually purchased - that rooted
from either Apple II or Apple IIGS (and still feel like the old games
but maybe with better graphics). Emulators on iPhone will never be as
good as the real thing, the main issue is of course using the touch
screen to emulate something else like a keyboard or joystick. However,
a good game like Missile Command is a good remake of the old game, and
makes perfect use of the iPhone multitouch UI - it is just unfortunate
that I am not a fan of Atari games.

Karateka would be fun -- as long as you remember not to get kicked in
the face right at the very end. :-D

Ya, always run to hug her. However, I wonder whether we can see it,
and how to control in iPhone...

The other software that comes to my mind is DiversiTune...
