Is ProTERM available anywhere else?
Or, is there some other good ProDOS-based term prog with ZModem
implementation that works well over a null-modem link to a PC?
Thank you.
(I redirected follow-ups to the main a2 group since the comm group seems
to be nearly dead these days.)

Zlink is also another good terminal program. I used MMGR up until
recently, but have switched to using Zlink due to it supporting higher
baud rates (up to 57600 whereas MMGR only supports 19200 I think). An
unfortunate side effect is that Zlink does not support ZModem (which
is misleading due to the name 'Zlink'). It does have XModem and YModem
though. You should find it easily enough in any of the major file
archives - in fact I just checked, and it can be found in the link
that was posted above. ie.

But I don't have one of those new-fangled keyboards with upper AND lower
case. So I have to use Ascii Express on my vanilla II with a Videx 80
col card. Just set your TERMCAP to apple-ae (you did install the full
terminfo database, right?) and start getty at 1200 baud - the fastest
you'll get without dropping characters. From my inittab:
# Example how to put a getty on a serial line (for a terminal)
#
T0:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -L ttyS0 1200 apple-ae
Run "top" and impress your friends with your ability to log on to the
"mainframe", in my case a P100 with 32 MB running Debian. Woohoo.
As a kid I would use Tony Marques's AGATE, which I believe was one of
the only free ProDOS 8 apps to do Zmodem.
It also did ANSI graphic characters, which I recall being a big feature
since most BBSs were run on IBM clones and used ANSI graphics to do
menus, games, etc.

I don't think I'd bother with the extra steps involved in setting up
ModemMGR. Personally, for an 8 bit communications program, I don't
think I'd use anything but ProTERM.
That said, I do most of my communications on my IIgs so Spectrum is the
way to go there. :)

That was Linards point. ProTerm doesn't seem to be available through
their website and he (nor I) can find an old version in the archives. :

I think it's still available if you call the vendor directly, but I may
be wrong.

Jerry is mostly certainly around... he helped deliver KFest this year.
I'll drop him a line and see whats up. ProTerm, imo, is the best 8-bit telecomm
program out there.
I also use Agate, as it has Zmodem and is readily available in the
archives for download. It works.

I just spoke to Jerry at Intrect (who be the way is a great guy) and
Proterm is alive! I just ordered my copy for $19.95 + S/H. Version 3.1
is available on 5 1/4" or 3 1/2". You can contact him directly at the
phone number on the website.

Super! Another happy customer - I think you'll find ProTerm (and its editor)
to be the best 8-bit comm program out there. At least, thats MHO. ;)

Seconded.

Thanks! I just got an email answer as well, seems like I had hit his
junk mail bin for some reason. To top it off, HIS answer of today landed
straight in MY junk mail bin (but luckily caught my eye for a second
before it went there). I'm starting to lose faith in bayesian spam
filters...

No problem. Glad to be of help. I don't know what platform you're on,
but if you are using a mac try SpamSieve. It's the best spam filter
I've ever used.
Good Luck!
- Josh
Which one are you using? I was using bogofilter for a while, but it
eventually got to where it wasn't filtering anything properly. For the past
month or two, SpamAssassin seems to be doing a better job; it uses multiple
techniques (not just Bayesian filtering) to catch spam.
If you run your own mail server, it's something to consider.

Naaa... to lazy for that. And for writing full sentences for that matter ;-)
I'm letting my provider (gmx.de) pre-filter the stuff and then run it
through Thunderbird's internal filter. Most of the time the combination
has worked well, although lately a few non-spam things got sorted out by
Thunderbird.
