I've received the 14 and 32 pin sockets I ordered from Digi-Key.
Along with sockets I already had on hand, I have enough complete
socket sets for 6 of Alex's cards. Three sets are spoken for so three
sets are available. Please contact me via PM if interested.

I have built mine now, and have successfully booted cpm up with it installed in my Apple ///.

Thanks Alex!!
(and thanks Steven H for the a3 applicard disks and doc)

I'll have to find some more time now to have a play with it further in the a3 :-)

regards
Rob

I hope to get around to assembling my kit within the next few days, if at all possible.

Just out of curiousity, I was wondering if anyone has tried booting into CP/M with one of these from a disk image using a CFFA3000 card, with the image mounted in a virtual Disk II drive. Has anyone done this? If not, any thoughts about whether ther is any reason it wouldn't work?

Absolutely! It works great with the CFFA3000. Also with Steven Hirsch's fantastic ProDOS drivers, you can use the CFFA3000 as a CP/M hard disk. The combo of the Freed Z80 and the CFFA makes for one of the most powerful CP/M systems ever. Great job Alex and Steve!

For extra credit, run a 20Mhz. Z80 card and CFFA3000 on a IIe with 8Mhz.
ZipChip. Very snappy!

I finally got around to assembling my card and made an initial (unsuccessful) attempt to verify that it works. I've installed it in slot 3 of my IIe, which has a CFFA3000 in slot 7, uses slot 6 as a virtual Disk II, with a DuoDisk in slot 5. No blue smoke appeared on power up, which is good as far as it goes. I've tried booting up with a CP/M image from a USB key assigned to a virtual Disk II drive, with no luck. I'm not sure if the settings I'm using on my CFFA3000 might be part of the problem or not, so I'll experiment with changing those when I get a chance.

Has anyone else used one of these cards with specifically the CFFA3000 card before? If so, did you experience any issues?

Thanks,
Chuck

Chuck,
I built 2 cards and they both worked perfect with the CFFA3000. My question is what "CP/M image" did you use? FYI, MS SoftCard disks will not boot this type of card.

I tried booting an image that I thought was a copy of the boot disk that shipped with the original Applicard. Since this is my first attempt to build a kit like this, I wouldn't be surprised if the problem was less than perfect soldering.

If you have the right image then you may have the wrong sector
order. Best way to ensure proper sector order is to use a '.SDK'
image file and use "ShrinkIt" to convert to a real disk. You might
also try booting with a minimal set of cards, i. e., Freed card in
slot 5 and DuoDisk controller in slot 6.

Chucks specific question was about compatibly with the CFFA3000. If it would help I could post the .dsk image I used and know works with the CFFA3000.
If there is still concern that the board is not working due to an assembly error, I would suggest Chuck post some high-res pictures of the board (front and back). If there is an error, I am sure one of the folks here would point it out quickly.

Just wondering if there's been any resolution to this issue of booting CP/M with a CFFA3000? I'm having the same issue and would be interested to hear.

Thanks...Win

There is no general issue in booting CP/M from a CFFA3000. Many of us have
been successfully using this arrangement. Would be nice to get a followup
from Chuck, since I think he was battling a problem specific to his hardware
or software.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to get a chance to do any further testing since my last post, and probably won't for a bit longer. I suspect that I may simply have one or more poor solder joints, since I've never assembled a kit of this nature before. However when I get the chance, the first thing I plan to do is to make sure I've got a good copy of an appropriate boot disk, and see if I can get it to boot from a real floppy. If so, then the card itself should be good, otherwise I'll need to examine my work for flaws and see if I can fix them.
