I invite everyone to explore the site all over again, because you’re
bound to find, for example, many more educational software archives,
soundtracks to many games, a hand picked selection of the best freeware
and shareware apps and games, a new hardware section AND a new section
devoted to IIGS books and magazines.

Nice work :-). Was always very impressed with the amount of work you
put into your last site, and looks like it just got better :-). Really
like the idea of expanding into Hardware info as well nice one.
Cheers

Awesome work Alex! IMHO, your site was already the *best* - but the best
just got better. :-)
My kids are really keen to check out some of the new educational titles.
Thank you for all your hard work on this.

There are LOTS of new archives. Too many to remember and list them all.
Very nice, Alex.
However, I couldn't get to the firmware ROM images, or
the preloaded hard drive image on the main page.

downloads for images of the ROM01, ROM03 and Hard Drive image :-) The

YAY!!!!!!, I won, I won.
Ok, exercising my prize, I find that the hard drive image is the same
as the older one, except that the newer one doesn't have the nice
background picture of your web site on it.
As far as the ROM images, I can open the zips, but I can't extract
the files. Something about unsupported compression method.

Great stuff,
I have some of the books that you don't have cover scans for, do the uploads
work as yet?
Can scan them this weekend.

I'm coming across some teething problems and I think the
upload/submission system is currently affected. However, I should be
able to clear this up in a day or two, certainly in time for the
weekend for you try out the submission system.

Yep, it's a known bug. We don't know what's causing it (yet) but a
refresh/reload in your browser should load the page as normal. The bug
appears across different browsers and platforms and we're sure it's a
server side issue.
It doesn't seem to have come through.
I've just been in touch with my web developer, Rane, via email and he's
fixed an issue with submitting files. Uploading can't be complete
unless you type the word(s) presented as graphics as part of an
anti-spamming method. This now appears correctly, so in theory,
uploading/submitting files should now be working.
Try it again, and let me know if it still doesn't work.
Ug, that's not a good sign re: being able to open the Zip files but not
extract anything from then.
Would you be able to download any 2image archive to see if that unzips
correctly?
I've zipped all the archives using StuffIt Standard v9.01 on MacOS X
10.4.11 and they should be stripped of any Mac specific icons or
resources. When I downloaded the ROM01 image, it unzipped correctly.
What program are you using the unzip archives?
Seen it before, quite recently, in fact. Maybe try again, a different setting.
Let me know when it's ready.
> Would you be able to download any 2image archive to see if that unzips

Yes, the hard drive image opens and extracts just fine, leaving the resource
fork alone.

I use WindowsXP's built-in decompressor when it works, and when not,
then I run 7-Zip, and that takes care of most other compressed files.

It's worked! Hooray! I hope to add the card scan to the site in the
next week. I'm getting a few submissions already, thanks everybody!
Keep looking through the site to see what's missing and where you may
be able to fill in the gaps.
I sent you a bunch of card scans and it appears that you used several
of them. I don't see the CMS SCSI, Reg Apple SCSI or Sandwich II SCSI
card. There is no RAM GS in your list of RAM cards. Remember there
was one card with no markings at all?
You used the S&S RAM card but the enlarge does not seem to work for
that one.
I could send those scans to you again if you like.
Version 3 is awesome!! That was a lot of work but a labor of love I'm
sure.
Thank you.

Does this site work with IE 6? Maybe a setting is screwed up in my
browser, but when I click on any of the categories on the home page,
such as applications, games, educational, etc., nothing happens.
But when I use Mozilla Firefox 2, I see drop-down menus and I can
click on the various selections.
Any suggestions?

I thought we got it working with IE6 to a point, but I don't have a PC
to test it with. Firefox v2 or v3 is prefered. Even try Safari for
Windows, you'll get drop shadows under the pull down menu items :-)
IE6 here, and I get the drop-down menus. No clicking. point and wait.

I just downloaded the Cinemaware and Sierra demo 2IMG disk images and
the either Windows XP's unzip or WinRAR (I'm not sure which did the job
but it was probably WinRAR) had problems. I was told the Sierra zip
file was corrupt and it couldn't be unzipped and the Cinemaware zip
uncompressed without errors but the disk image wouldn't boot and booting
a hard drive image with that image in slot 5, drive 1, I got the dialog
saying it didn't recognize the file system and asking if I wanted to
initialize it. One other thing to mention, the file I got from
unzipping the Cinemaware zip file didn't have a file extension so I
assumed it was a 2IMG file and added the ".2MG" myself.
I'd never even heard of these two demo disks so I'm really curious as to
what they are like.
Hmmm...I probably won't be able to look at the .zip archive issue until
the weekend. Apologies to all. If you're interested in a program, do
try to download it and report back to this thread with what happened.
I just had a quick download of the Cinemaware Demo and it downloaded
and unzipped fine. Worked fine with Bernie ][ to the Rescue running in
Classic on MacOS X 10.4.11. Whatever you're using, note which operating
system, browser and which program you use to unzip. Try as many
different combinations of these as you can.
Is anyone else using a Mac with Bernie or Sweet 16? If it works for you
as well, it's beginning to look like some resource fork crap might be
making WinRAR think the archives are corrupt. What a joy it will be to
re-zip each archive and copy them into their respective folders, and
upload them as well :-)
Alex,
I'm using a Mac Mini running OS X 10.4.11 and Sweet 16. I noticed a
problem with Star Saga One and Star Saga Two. They unzipped with no
trouble, I can boot them up without any trouble but when I actually
try to play either game I end up in a sort of loop. I select start a
new game, then select a character and end up back at start a new game
because it says there is no game data available. Any ideas?

I don't see any evidence of a spurious fork on either the zip or the
unzipped image. unzip -l shows a single file of the correct size:
$ unzip -l Cinemaware_Demo.zip
Archive: Cinemaware_Demo.zip
Length Date Time Name
-------- ---- ---- ----
819264 06-21-99 04:42 Cinemaware Demo.2mg

Ok, I recently learned that 7-ZIP has an internal command called,
"Open Inside", and when I use this on the compressed internal file,
it opens up the 2mg and I can then extract it. Both Cinemaware
and Sierra Games Demos unzipped and extracted fine, and ran
just as well. The Sierra Demo requires being placed on a separate
disk and run from within GS/OS. Because of it being a SYS16
file it can't run under the ProDOS that is presently on the image.
Feel free to include any material I have made available from my Micol
Advanced BASIC IIgs site.

I was poking around in my Apple II archive directory on my PC today and
noticed that the Cinemaware_Demo.zip and the Cinemaware_Demo file that I
added a .2mg extension too were the same size (430 KB). I then changed
the extension of the .2mg file to .zip and unzipped that and got a file
named "Cinemaware Demo.2mg" which was 801 KB and worked fine.
It looks like that particular disk image was zipped twice.
> I'd never even heard of these two demo disks so I'm really curious as to

I haven't been back to retry the Sierra demo but I did look at the
Cinemaware demo. Those guys sure could do some nice things with IIgs
graphics. Too bad some of their other games were never done for the
IIgs.
Hmmm...this sounds like another problem altogether. I've just tested
this with Bernie and I can select characters and I *THINK* I've then
begun a game. I just tried with Sweet 16 v 2.0 Beta 1 and...well...I
can't even get it to boot. I've not had much luck getting anything to
work with that version of Sweet 16...I'm looking forward to Beta 2.
Anyways, I'm going to guess that the level of emulation offered by
Sweet 16 isn't supporting Star Saga. If you can try it with Bernie or
KEGS, it may work. Also, if you can convert the disk image to a real
disk, you could also try it with a real IIGS.
I've checked my copy of the Sierra Demo - there's no system folder on
it. If you're trying to run it from another system and it reports
Tool25 is missing, you'll need to copy that tool from a system folder
that includes it to your commonly used system.
The System 6 hard drive image I've set up includes Tool25. It's been
setup to include all the most common tools, and fonts so that games
that support System 6 run as smoothly possible.
OK, this is what I've found thanks to testing on my girlfriend's Dell laptop.
Downloading the .zip files through Firefox 3 results in zip files that
open in either WinRAR or the built in Windows XP zip decompressor. The
folder containing the 2image disk archives appears as normal once
decompressed.
Downloading the .zip files with Internet Explorer 6 results in the
problems in decompressing the zips. WinRAR shows the corrupt looking
file as several people have described. It's probably also occuring with
IE 7.
I'll let the web developer know of this issue.
In the meantime, try out Firefox 3 (www.firefox.com) and your download
problems and HTML rendering problems will be over.
Thanks Mark! I've downloaded all those materials and have sorted them.
I hope to include them on the site shortly.

Alex: Thanks! I have rather less experience with IIgs. Am I correct that
Tool025 is not on the Sierra Demo?

I just downloaded the Sierra Demo with Firefox and it worked fine this
time.
I'm wondering if the double zip problem with the Cinemaware Demo is
something that has bit me a few times in the past year. Some web
server/client combinations can negotiate to gzip data before sending it
across but there is never any user interface element to tell the user
that this is happening. Internet Explorer seems to be particularly
brain dead when it comes to this as it will negotiate to gzip the data
that gets transferred but then simply save the gzipped data on the
client's end without changing the suffix (filetype) to let the user
know. This might only happen when using the "Save Target As..." option
in IE7.
I know it happen to me when downloading some text files and I couldn't
open them only to find that they were much smaller than I expected and
when I took at a look at their contents, discovered the gzip header.
Adding a .gz suffix allowed me to unpack them without any problems.
For some strange reason, there wasn't even a system folder on the disk
image for the Sierra demo which means you won't be able to boot from
it. You'll need to download the System 6 hard drive image (found on the
home page), boot that, then run the Sierra demo from the Finder.
For some strange reason, I recall someone saying that here 3 days ago.
Oh yeah, that was me. 8>D

Alex: Thank you! I had installed from Apple's 6.0.1 images, but never
realized I didn't have everything. The Sierra Demo runs fine now, and I
found the Pascal & DOS FSTs!

Bill: Sorry I misunderstood your message

I got the part about "being placed on a separate disk and run from
within GS/OS," but I didn't understand that the missing Tool025 was on
one of SystemTools disk images.

KEGSOSX 0.65 dies booting. I'm not seeing a problem on Sweet16 2.0b1 or
KEGSMAC 0.91. The game continually refers to the manual, but apparently
I just bought tools in a crater and am now aloft! :-)

The one thing you need to know about Star Saga 1 and 2 is that you
absolutely NEED to have the boxed game to play. It includes a game
board and a massively thick manual. Both games are very rare and highly
respected and desired by RPG fans - Star Saga 2 for the IIGS went on
eBay last year for about $130 U.S.
You won't find any graphics in the game software as all the graphics
were kept on the game board, which was lushly illustrated and included
many pieces.
