Hopefully someone knows any easy answer for this?

I'm looking for a cable that has a 9pin RGB end and other other end is a
15pin RGB end which will work with a IIgs computer. I hope what I'm
explaining is not to confusing.

I just recently came into a 15 inch commodore monitor which I would like to
use with the IIgs computer however the pinout on the monitor is 9pin and the
IIgs is 15 pin anyone know of a specific cable which can be purchased?

Also, have a Magnavox monitor but I think I just need a 9pin to 15pin
adapter and the two cables can be hooked up on this monitor.

Any thoughts or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I think most Commodore monitors used digital RGB (something like CGA)
instead of analog RGB which the IIgs supplies -- making them
incompatible.

The Apple Extended 80 Column RGB card (for the IIe) generates digital
RGB. I then have a Video7 Mappler (though I think the circuit is not
that complicated) that converts from the 15-pin connector from the
card to a 9-pin connector that can directly be hooked up to a
Commodore monitor.

Check the Apple II FAQ here:
http://home.swbell.net/rubywand/Csa2MONITOR.html#015

It lists the Amiga monitors that can be used with the IIgs and the
cabling required. You will almost surely need to roll your own cable.
I have done this for Commodore 1084 monitors (as have others on here)
and they work well.

Also, if any of your Amiga monitors have a SCART input, details for
purchasing a pre-made cable, or for rolling your own, can be found
here:
http://vintageware.orconhosting.net.nz/apple2/scart.html

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Mike

Some Commodore monitors are digital and some are analogue, so you will
need to find out which one is yours. Luckily, I have a rare Commodore
1902 with both onboard and I keep both my C128 (digital ttl) and my Amiga
500 (analogue) plugged in at all times, and utilize a switch on the front
panel to switch between the two formats. It also has composite for the
C64 side of my 128 as well as green screen monochrome.

My monitor uses round din-type inputs (8 pin and 5 pin). If yours is 9
pin, I would hazard a guess that you have a digital monitor as I've only
seen those type inputs on the digital versions. The analogues usually
have the round 5 pin dins for the Amiga cables. My monitor also has a
SCART connector but, being in Canada, I've nver used one of those, so I
don't know if they were analogue or digital.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Okay, here is more info on the two monitor I have which I hope can be used
on a IIgs computer

Monitor 1:
Commodore 1084s with a 9 pin plug on the back.

Monitor 2:
Magnavox Professional with an 8 pin round plug on the back labeled TTL RGB
(do not know what this means)
and also a 6 pin round plug on the back labeled lin RGB (do not know what
this means)

Has anyone used these two monitors on a IIgs connected to the RGB connector
and if so how?

Thanks for any info again!
Sam

Did you check the links I posted previously? Details of both can be
found in the Apple II FAQ, and yes, both should work with the IIgs
with the appropriate cable.

As I mentioned in my previous email, I am using a 1084 monitor with a
IIgs (as a few others on c.s.a2 also do).

Cheers,
Mike

This monitor is the same as my 1902 (just another version). The TTL is
the digital port to which you can hook up a C128 (via a DE9 rgb to 8 pin
din cable) or an older PC with EGA output (using the same cable). The 6
pin is your analogue to which you can hook up an Amiga 500 (via an Amiga
to 6 pin din cable), Atari ST (via an odd 13 pin din to 6 pin din) and a
IIGS. You can change from digital to analog via a switch behind a
dropdown door on the front panel.

Now you need to make a 15 pin to 6 pin din cable and you're in
business. Your other monitor is strictly TTL digital.

Not confusing at all. I made a cable to do exactly that and it works
perfectly.
My monitors are 1084S-P I think. They have the D-9 connector and can be
switched between analog / digital.
These monitors have an analog / digital button on the back to set the
mode.
If yours is like this nothing can be easier.
