Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I recently moved which allowed me to set up and use my two Apple IIgs computers after a year in storage. I've always booted from a 6.0.1 image on both machines and with 6.0.3 released last year one of my first efforts was to update GSOS.

Both machines are duplicates of each other except one is an 01 machine and the other is 03. They both contain in slot 1 a Uthernet card, slot 2 has an Apple High Speed SCSI card with an Apple CD-ROM drive connected, slot 3 has a TWGS running at 17 Mhz, slot 4 has Apple's FDHD Superdrive I/F card, slot 6 has two 5.25 disk drives and slot 7 has a CFFA3000 card.

Here's where it gets interesting. I'm lazy and used The Crate image from the net to boot both IIgses and the CD-ROM drive with an HFS disk is mounted on 6.0.1's desktop. I've downloaded a couple of 6.0.3 drive images both in 2MG and PO formats. For instance, Live.Install.po, and System 6_0_3 and Free Games.hdv. When I booted from these images, the CD-ROM drive would not be on the desktop of either machine.

I tried to use the Live.Install.po image to easy update The Crate.2MG image and when I booted from it, The Crate showed version 6.0.3 but the CD-ROM did not show up on the desktop. Finally, I loaded images of all 6 install disks and a blank 32 MB po image to the CFFA3000 and did a custom install running almost all the scripts and that new image mounts the CD-ROM on the desktop in 6.0.3.

What I don't know is why. Is there a problem with the installation that will only install the drivers of the present, detected hardware? Usually you copy the drivers to the drivers folder to implement the new hardware, so what am I missing?

A second question if I may. What's 6.0.3's support for Utherenet and Uthernet II cards?

Finally the third question is are the any issues with installing ProDOS 2.4.1 into GS/OS 6.0.3? That's what I plan to do next.

Thank you for your help and feedback in this matter. I appreciate it.

In order to use either of those cards with GS/OS 6.0.1 or later, you
need to have Marinettit with the appopriate Marinettit Link Layer
installed, or be running software written specifically to talk with the
card.

There are two versions of the Uthernet Link Layer, one for the original
Uthernet card, and one for the newer Uthernet II card.

You can get both from my web site:

Thank you for the info. I got Marinetti up and running successfully and can access the internet.

Thanks again,
