Hi

I'm a bit lost about the right way to create Apple IIe disks from DSK files.
Some say I should use ADT, others ciderpress but I'm not even sure I can find 5.25 disk drives for PC I could use to create Apple II disks.

Where should I start first please?

thanks

Hello and welcome! ADTPro and Ciderpress are great tools and are not
mutually exclusive. ADTPro is used to communicate and send disk
images (.dsk and .do files among others) from your PC to the Apple II
computer and vice versa. Ciderpress is a file management application
and a damn good one, but not required for making disks. To create
actual 5.25" Apple II disks, you will most likely require an actual,
genuine Apple II disk drive (there are a variety out there) and an
Apple II-based computer to format and write the disk images to it.
Old IBM PCs use 360K based floppy drives (I think) which is different
from the Apple II ones so just make sure you have the right drive and
the right sized disks. Instructions and the free download for ADTPro
is here: http://adtpro.sourceforge.net/
Disks and serial cable for connecting your PC to the Apple II (with
super serial card) are available here: http://www.retrofloppy.com/products.html

Best of luck and keep us posted on your updates and questions.

First off you can't use a PC 5.25 drive to create disks for the Apple II, they use entirely different disk schemes. The Apple II uses GCR and the PC uses MFM. Disks created by one method can't be read by the other.

ADT, or ADTPro, would be your best method to get Apple II disks to the Apple II computer. As long as you have a working Apple II, or IIGS, and a USB cable you can connect your PC to the Apple II and transfer the disk image to the Apple which will in turn save it to a real disk.

Thanks to all of you. I've my SSC in the Apple IIe and I can easily install ADT pro on the PC but how can I install the ADT software on the apple II to communicate with the PC ADT ?

read the instructions on the website, it will transfer prodos, start up ADTPro and make its own disk with nothing more than a couple lines entered by you

http://adtpro.sourceforge.net/bootstrap.html

It has a way to use the SSC to bootstrap itself.
