how to use Joystick in Elite ? ( with ApplePC emulator )

My joystick works fine in ApplePC in all other games, but
I can't figure out how I could get it to work with ELITE.
I played ELITE.. err.. about 14 years ago on my Apple IIe, and
there was a way to use a Joystick, but don't know which KEY
or button combination to activate the Joystick in the game.
Does anyone know how you can activate the joystick in ELITE ?
I miss that old times...

Press K to toggle between Joystick and KB control. Here is a listing of
Elite game controls from the original "Quick Key Control Guide":
