I unpacked my //e for the first time in a couple of years, and
found it isn't quite working. When I try to boot ProDOS (version
2.0.1), the title page comes up and is quickly replaced by an error
message reading "Relocation/Configuration Error." Earlier versions
of ProDOS just hang on the copyright screen, and DOS 3.3 disks just
make noise. The DuoDisk I'm using works fine on my GS, and trying
different controllers and drives yielded the same results.

Does anyone have an idea as to what's wrong with my system? Any replies,
either here or via email, would be really appreciated.

Means you've got some bad RAM, probably. I had a ][+ that would do
that when the Language Card RAM was bad. Do a Closed-Apple-Reset and
see what it says.

|roDOS 8 v2.0.x requires that you upgrade your processor to a
65C02. That's the cause of the "Relocation/Configuration Error"
you're seeing, but I don't know why the older versions and DOS 3.3
don't work for you.

BTW, ProDOS 8 v 2.0.3, included on GS System 6.0.1 and on the 8-bit
System 4.0.2, now actually has a "REQUIRES ENHANCED IIE OR LATER"
error message in it.

Try pressing all the chips FIRMLY into their sockets.
They tend to "walk" out due to thermal changes.
MAKE SURE POWER IS OFF WHEN YOU DO THIS.

Hi Jim.

To boot ProDOS8 2.0 you need MANDATORY an Apple 2e+ (PLUS) !!!
(because P8 uses 65C02 instructions)

Thanks to everyone who helped me with my problem -- replacing three of
the DRAMs on my motherboard fixed everything.

There's no such thing as a IIe Plus...there is, though, such a thing
as an enhanced IIe, and you do need one of those to load ProDOS 8 2.x.
