Does anybody know where this can be obtained? I have it on Apple disk,
but would like to run it in emulation on Applewin. It's a text adventure
game. I can't find it at ftp.apple.asimov.net.
Alternatively, is there an easy way to transfer the image from the apple
to the IBM? I assume there's a faq on this, but I don't have time to
solder things! :)
Thanks you hoopy froods! ;)

Find a program called ADT (Apple Disk Transfer). Probably ADT121.ZIP
would be the file to search for.
Basically, it's a program that makes your PC the server and your ][
the client, and allows you to insert a disk in the drive, press a key,
and viola! your disk transfers over your nullmodem connection into a
..DSK format on the other end. Works swell-like. However, you need an
Apple Super Serial Card from what I understand.

Well, there might be a copy at asimov in the adventure/infocom directory.
Otherwise check out ftp.gmd.de:/if-archive/infocom hierachy. I think there's
some conversion tools for 2e->PC in the tools subdirectory.

A better bet would be to find one of the freeware Infocom interpreters
for MS-DOS or Windows and use the Hitchhiker's data file with that.
It will run a lot faster that way, and the interface is probably
nicer. Or if you want the whole shootin' match, pick up a copy of
Lost Treasures of Infocom I and II to get almost every Infocom text
game ever put out. I was going to suggest the new "Masterpieces of
Infocom" collection that Activision has recently released, but I
just look at the game list and Hitchhiker's appears to be missing.
Strange...
They never released LTOI II for Apple IIGS, right? (Or Masterpieces of
Infocom?)

as a whole.
Right. Your best bet is to pick up a copy of LTOI II for the PC and use
the game files with the GS version of Frotz.
Masterpieces is also an option if you have a CD-ROM. However, all the
game docs are stored on the CD in PDF files, so this is probably not a
good option if you only have a GS.
FYI, Masterpieces does include "Leather Goddesses of Phobos", but not
"Hitchhikers" or "Shogun". That is because the licences expired on both of
those products and the copyrights reverted to their respective authors
(Adams and Clavel(sp?)).
One other thing, HHGTTG is definately *somewhere* on asimov as I notice that
I have a copy in an image file (and it is definately not one I own in
real diskette form).
<<<John>>>
The rights reverted to Douglas Adams, and Activision/Infocom can no longer
sell it (any version)..
So you can just run it on your real Apple II (they're always better than
emulators), or use InfocomPro to pull out the data file to use with
one of the many Infocom Zcode interpreters.

Any ideas how to locate Douglas ? I'm sure would like to speak to
him on reclassifying the software |8)
On that note Matt, after my exams are over in two weeks, I'd make
sure those download links on Treasure Chest Project directs to a shrunk
Apple II accessible file.
As for those games like Shiela, Taxman, Super Taxman II ... I have
a copy of the program I downloaded from Asimov, but since they have those
'pirated' stuff and non-original hacks, I did not wish to link it.
Hopefully someone has a copy that can be uploaded to ground. And I
will also step up on tracing those other Penguin authors as well, which I
guess many would like to see Sword of Kadash, Xyphus, etc... reclassified.
Regards.
