Hi Folks,

I have been using my Apple ][+ lately, and have found some text
files in PRODOS.... The problem is 99.9% of my disks are DOS 3.3
Does anyone know how to print a text file out to the screen. I
think this should be real easy... it's just been... 8 years!

I need to be able to simple BASIC or small program that will just
dump the text files.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

This is DOS 3.3, and maybe it'll work in ProDos too...

10 onerr goto 100
20 input fn$
30 ?chr$(4);"open ";fn$
40 ?chr$(4);"read ";fn$
50 input a$
60 print a$
70 goto 50
100 ?chr$(4);"close"

not pretty, but it should work... I haven't touched AppleSloth in YEARS..

You should switch to ProDOS and use ShoIt1.5 (now in cba2). It views
AND OR prints text files. If you want to PRINT the file to the printer
in the above program, TJ, just add lines 45 and 110.

45 ?chr$(4);"PR#1": rem replace 1 with whatever slot your printers in
110 ?chr$(4);"PR#0": rem turn off printer

merry chris......opps, wrong season. Apple II forever!

Well... assuming you can get to Basic with the prodos disks, do this:

10 D$=CHR$(4)
20 ?D$"OPEN filename"
30 ?D$"READ filename"
40 GET A$
50 ?A$;
60 GOTO 40

The program will keep going, even past the end. At the ] prompt, type
CLOSE after it says XXX error in YYY

Also, to send it to a printer, add:

15 ?D$"PR#s" where s is the slot of your printer.

Mail me if you need more help.
