Did anyone ever do anything with it? I know someone bought it, but
did they ever do anything to preserve it?
I sold the rights to Kevin Smallwood sometime ago, I know he posted on
it once and nothing since. He also has EXfer, not the latest though.

Those were indeed the days.
I have mine but don't want to sell it. When I bought the rights to GBBS
from Lance (L&L) I also got his BBS; so I guess I also own that one
also. What I'm not sure about is selling that copy to anyone. I know
Lance and also I did; was require the owner contact me and let me know
who it was being sold to, I never charged for that service unless the
buyer required a new disk or owners guide or update. Kevin may have
different requirements. I have his disks as well as his operating guide.
It may not be the latest, as in bug fixes that I had to make, but it
does work. I would hope Kevin would reply to you. His email was
kevin_smallwoodATyahoo.com.
You're welcome to telnet to aor.retroarchive.org. As far as I know, it's still the only one out there.

I tweaked tcpser to issue the WILLDO ECHO telnet negotiation sequence to
prevent the telnet client from doing its own echoing. It was causing all
sorts of pprroobblleemmss for people that didn't know how to manually turn
of echo in their client. :)
I used to run a small GBBS system back in the 80's but had to drop it after
going through two ProFile drives :-(. I "migrated" the users to TBBS under
PC-DOS and am now running that system as a VMWare image on a Win2K server
box. If I ever scare up enough hardware to have a reliable HD I might put
the GBBS system back on line. :-)

I'm using a 128MB CF card instead of a spinning disk. Works great. :)
