Where are the Apple II forums?

Right here, lol ...
But I haven't even started the setup on it yet.
Do people really want an Apple II specific forum?
If so, I can put my a-2.c/forum together. Just let me know what discussion
areas you'd like to see.
Cheers,
Craig
Please?, anything that guarantees that the topic will
remain on-track after 10 posts. Whew!, do we tend to
venture off-topic pretty quickly in CSA2. ;-)))))
Oh!, and also NO "C" discussions, thank you. :-)))))

<shrug> We've got forums all over the place. I kinda like keeping as much as I
can in CSA2 because it's universal... well, until all the ISPs quit carrying
usenet. <grumble>

I agree with you, Sean. On Usenet, we have the advantages of
universality, full archiving, and search capability, plus the
huge advantage of being _one place_ where everyone with Apple II
interests can congregate.
Forums come and go, but Usenet lives on.
Splitting an already small community into smaller splinters
is not useful, and diminishes the community.
The only justification I can see for creating another forum
is for highly specialized discussions that are not even
potentially of general interest.
Perhaps Carte Blanche programming is one of those, but even
there I have my doubts. The broader community can always benefit
from "eavesdropping" on the conversations and may have very
valuable suggestions. (This openness always risks raising the
noise level, but I think the benefits outweigh the costs.)

Extremely valid points, guys. I'll skip putting the forum together at this
point.
If there comes a time (unlikely) that usenet starts dropping the CSA2 groups
then revisiting the forum idea might be worthwhile.

Craig
I was just about to ask that, but decided not to. Bill Buckels had sent me
an email when I replied to the last spam.
But I still wish, every day, for a way to post to USENET without
setting myself up for SPAM.
I know it wasn't designed for that, but the ability to do usenet
without getting SPAM would be wonderful.
What would be VERY helpful, would be a way to 'obscure' our e-mail
addresses in usenet posts. If there were a 'forum' system that did
that, it would be helpful.

You should be able to in most newsreaders. Where it asks for your
email address, type no_freaking_way@forget_it.com, or something
to that affect, and then it will be 'obscured', as you put it.
See that one: http://www.hackzapple.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=13 - I
believe it is far too specialized for csa2 ;-)
Easy free ad BTW...

I agree we don't need other forums than csa2 and its subforums for the
reasons explained by Michael.

While posting does expose an email address, various obfuscating
methods can be used, often automatically after configuring your
newsreader.
I've never obfuscated my email, and after many years, have never
had a bothersome amount of spam--so I can only conclude that my
postings have not resulted in much "harvesting".
There are plenty of sources of spam besides newsgroup postings.
