I'm pretty sure there was a key combination you pressed on boot to fire up
the utilities, which are stored in ROM on the card. From there, you could
partition (and format?) drives, back up to and restore from tape, and
probably some other stuff I don't recall.

Hold down the 0 key when you turn on your IIgs should force it into the onboard utilities
