You're gonna have to buy one if you want to play Bayonetta 2. It's never coming out to other systems as Nintendo is fully funding it. In the words of Hideki Kamiya: "To all of those asking for Bayonetta 2 on PS3, you should ask for Zelda on PS3 as well." (I don't know if those were his exact words, but it's close enough)

The console is over 15 years old, so many games are becoming impossible to play. The titles listed below are either multiplayer-only and their servers shut down, or they have been delisted and physical copies are hard to come by. At least there are still ways to play many of these titles on other platforms.

Updated February 20, 2022, by Jason Wojnar: The PlayStation store on the PS3 is still alive and kicking, but that does not help with delisted games or multiplayer titles lacking active servers. Who knows what will happen to all the games that the store does close down. Nintendo fans are cruelly finding out with the announced closure of the 3DS and Wii U shops next year. One only hopes that players got plenty of enjoyment out of the games below. Most of them are not only unavailable on the PS3, but they are not available anywhere, to the sorrow of their fans.

The first PS3 entry in this once-popular Sony franchise ditched any single-player component in favor of a multiplayer focus. SOCOM: Confrontation was met with a mixed reception, and its launch was not helped by the reported technical issues and the scant number of maps that the game offered.

Official servers were shut down in 2014. At least the sequel, SOCOM 4, has a single-player campaign. There is a small workaround for SOCOM: Confrontation, though, since fans recently launched private servers for the PS3 exclusive tactical shooter.

Noby Noby Boy had a unique idea that brought every player together to complete a goal. They had to help the protagonist stretch across all the planets in the solar system and reach earth. The goal was finally reached years after release, prompting a note from the creator to show up.

The game was delisted from the PS Store in 2018, making it impossible to play for anyone who had not already bought it. Noby Noby Boy was designed by Keita Takahashi, who is known for atypical gaming ideas such as Katamari Damacy.

Some titles have physical releases that at least give people a chance to play them, but a couple never received such a luxury. Poker Night 2, for example, never received a physical PS3 release, nor was it ported to the PS4.

MAG stands for Massive Action Game. At its largest, the game allowed for 256 players to battle it out on a single map. It all worked, and the game definitely had its fans, but it apparently was not enough to sustain the title for long.

MAG launched in 2010 and shut down only four years later in 2014. The PS4 was out by this point, but the PS3 was still in use by many, so it seems like the game was shut down prematurely. Sony seems to have a renewed interest in multiplayer and live service games, evidenced by their purchase of Bungie, so maybe fans will receive a spiritual sequel to MAG in the future.

These servers only lasted from 2008 to 2012. Fortunately, fans can still play Metal Gear Solid competitively through Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.Metal Gear Solid 4 at least has a physical release and does not require an online connection to play, but its exclusivity on PS3 makes it progressively harder to play as the years go by.

GTA Online eventually made its way to PS4 and Xbox One, where new improvements and updates made it a fun and engaging way to pass the time with friends. GTA Online for the PS3 went offline on December 21st, 2021. PS3 owners can still enjoy the fantastic single-player campaign for as long as the system and copies of the game exist, however.

Unfortunately for anybody in the west interested in this game, the servers in North America have been down since 2015. At least there are no shortages of other Dynasty Warriors games to play. Additionally, developer Omega Force has made spin-offs of other franchises in the same style, most notably Hyrule Warriors.

Dust 514 was a pretty ambitious idea. The first-person multiplayer shooter took place in the EVE Online universe and events in one would affect the other. It was also free for PS3 owners. Early impressions from the beta were promising, but the final release received mixed reviews.

It came out in May 2013, several months before the PS4's release, and the servers shut down in 2016. A PS4 version never came out, which could be one reason for its demise. Why play an online PS3 shooter when the PS4 is pumping out games at a rapid pace?

The game came out in 2010 and was delisted just four years later, making it impossible to play unless players already bought the game. Fortunately, the retro-influenced cooperative fighter was re-released in 2021 for modern consoles. It was appropriate because the film recently had its tenth anniversary.

It originally came out on PS3 and Windows, though the version for the former has been unplayable since 2018. Fortunately, players on the older Sony console can pick up right where they left off on PS4.

PS3 owners could play the game up until 2017 when the servers were shut down forever alongside the release of the Stormblood expansion. Fortunately, any PS3 player could upgrade to the PS4 version for free. The most recent expansion, Endwalker, came out in 2021. There is no end in sight for this incredibly successful MMORPG, impressive considering it came out two generations ago.

Online services associated with the PlayStation 3 version of Grand Theft Auto V will be taken offline before the end of this year, rendering GTA Online effectively null on the old Sony console. The multiplayer mode will be inaccessible from 16th December 2021, and Shark Cards usable in the PS3 version will no longer be sold starting 16th September. The single player story mode in Grand Theft Auto V won't be impacted by Rockstar flipping the switch on the game's online capabilities.

While we very much doubt there are many users actively playing GTA Online on PS3, the blog post confirming the news states it won't be possible to transfer characters housed on the system to either a PS4 or PS5. "There is no feature available to transfer character data or progress from those platforms." There also won't be any refunds offered for Shark Cards purchased on PS3, either.

Liam grew up with a PlayStation controller in his hands and a love for Metal Gear Solid. Nowadays, he can be found playing the latest and greatest PS5 games as well as supporting Derby County. That last detail is his downfall.

Imagine shutting down a PS3 game so the PS3 game can be played somewhere else...instead of just making a new game. The PS4 never had a GTA game and its full-potential was never used for a GTA game. sad.

The best of GTA online in many ways was the first year. For me that first year was golden. My breaks after hours of play would be reading and responding to the GTA Forum and watching GTA Online videos.

Sad to see it end on the PS3, but the player numbers are probably very low now. However GTAO coming soon to current gen gives me comfort in knowing that my 2 characters, tranfered from PS3 to PS4, will still live on.

PS3 servers are staying online. Sony has not made any announcements regarding the closure of PlayStation 3 online multiplayer services. The company plans to discontinue the PSN Store on its legacy platforms, but that will not affect online multiplayer in PS3 games with active server support.

PSP and PlayStation Vita online multiplayer servers are not shutting down. Sony is discontinuing the digital PSN Store on both handheld platforms, but that will not affect server support for individual games. Where support is already active, PlayStation Portable and PS Vita games will continue to work online as intended.

Speaking with Gamespot, Bungie community manager Eric Osborne explained, "We're actually not supporting split-screen in Destiny. We love split-screen. Obviously we have a legacy of supporting it. We know a lot of players love it. We love it.

"But we really wanted to untether guardians. Even if you're in a fireteam, you can go wherever you want. That level of freedom was really important for us. We know some players really like split-screen. Ultimately, you can't build a game to suit every single player out there."

Do you want to know how to appear offline on your PS4 console? The PlayStation Network is great because it allows you to see who's online, who's playing what, message your friends, and play together. However, sometimes you just want to play by yourself or do something else without being bothered. This wikiHow article teaches you how to appear offline on your PS4, as well as on your PS3, PS5, and in the PlayStation app.

In addition to letting console gamers play the game early, Bungie is also packing in some rewards. The Destiny Beta, which requires a code, includes an exclusive emblem for the retail version of Destiny. The company says that it will also be packing in some surprises during the beta process which closes on July 26th, just a few weeks ahead of the Destiny release date.

Users that have extra codes can now share them with friends and family and the company says that all embargoes are now lifted which means that users can showcase the Destiny Beta in all of its glory. Keep in mind, Xbox Live Gold is required to play the game and in Japan, the Destiny Beta is only for the PlayStation 4.

Download the demo (NPEB90114) and take only the EBOOT.BIN and SPUJOBS.SPRX files from it, place them in the NPEB00052 folder and rename the folder to NPEB90114, and change the PARAM.SFO to NPEB90114.
NOTE: That method sounds like unlocking NPEB00052 (PSN Full Game) to play for free. Click to 'Talk' about this method.

1. If PS3 system sound settings output only 2LPCM (44 KHz/48 KHz), no BGM is playing. Sound effects and voice dubs work but some characters lost their dubs.
2. If PS3 system sound settings output 2LPCM and 5.1LPCM (44 KHz/48 KHz), all BGM and sound effects play OK but no voice dubs.
Searched the web about this issue and found it may be related to the TV used. I'm using an HDTV that can only play 2LPCM so I suspect the BGM outputs by default in 5.1 LPCM. --Sciaa
