I recently got access to an Amstrad 1512 DD with a Hard Drive Seageat
ST-138R and a controller card FCC ID EU45UEWD-1002-27X.
The computer works fine when the hard drive controller is NOT pluged-in, in
any of the free slots at the back of the motherboard.
When the card is pluged the computer does not even switch on. Also there is
no spinning in the hard drive.
Any idea what might be wrong? Is it easy to find such HD controllers?
Thank you in advance,
Kon
Could be a short circuit, perhaps some bent pins, maybe at one of the
connectors.
I don't know what specific controllers are used in the 1512, but as far
as I know they're not IDE but MFM controllers.
They're not very hard to find, just search on ebay for "western digital
isa controller". There are some for 16 Bit ISA and others for 8 bit.
You could also use an IDE controller, but then you also have to change
your hard disk and floppy drives.
