has anyone ever managed to build a sx1 tower?

also,
has anyone run into a problem with an sx1 or 1200 in which, sometimes when
the machine intensly accesses the hard drive, the computer locks up
requiring a cold restart?

?Tower?

Hmm, I understand some hard-drives need time to warm up and get up to speed.
So if it requiers a cold re-start and then works, it may be that.

The SX1 has a jumper to give it a boot delay so the drive can get up to
speed.

jumper settings are listed in the PDF manual here:-

My 1200 used to have that problem - the old Seagate 40Mb was poked and
required far longer to spin up, but rather than just rebooting once the
drive was spinning it would come on half-way through booting, proceed to
driveseek very quickly and crash. Not a problem now, replaced the drive with
a 110Mb Connor. Best decision ever, no storage issues now... yet.

1200s with 3.5" drives have similar issues - if they are powered from the
floppy power circuit. Because the 1200 lights up the hard disk, then the
floppy, the hard disk doesn't recieve power until AFTER the hard disk scan,
so the computer refuses to boot from the drive until a restart is completed.

Not that this helps you...?

Nick.
