I am attempting to transfer some Amiga files to my PC, using
EasyTransfer 2.0. I've attached a null modem cable to the serial ports
of either machine (25-pin on Amiga, 9-pin on PC). The machines are
unable to connect.
I noticed in the instructions for EasyTransfer that I need to
connect certain serial pins from the Amiga to certain pins on the PC.
Is my cable perhaps not connecting the right pins together? And what is
the difference between a 3-pin serial connection, and a 7-pin
connection?

Should be easy to check the cable using a multimeter.

A 3 pin connection uses only transmit, receive, and ground signals. It
relies on the communications software to imbed XON/XOFF codes in the
data stream to control the transfer (handshaking). A 7 pin uses
dedicated hardware signals to control handshaking.

I've got no idea about your cable, but I too decided to link my Pc and Amiga
together. I searched the net for the wiring diagram for a null modem cable.
I've included below the wiring description. I tried it this morning, and it
worked fine using ANSI terminal programs, so should work with the Easy
Transfer program. hope it helps.

Cheers, Rich.
