I just bought the online Amiga Forever, mainly to get Amiga Explorer. I
figured I might as well pay the extra $10 to get the extra software all
set up for WinUAE.

I copied over the Amiga software, AExplorer, to my Miami directory for
convenience and after starting MiamiDx and connecting I double-click the
AExplorer icon and it seems to be reporting that it started
successfully.

My problem is that when I double-click the "Amiga Computer" icon, it
tells me I'm running it for the first time and must set up the IP
addresses and such of the Amiga computer. I click "OK" and after about a
minute it says "Unspecified Error". I cannot find anyplace to set the IP
address or access any settings for an ethernet connection.

My setup:

A3000
Ariadne (original)
MiamiDx (tried to register, even has a keyfile Miami.key1 but kicks off
after one hour)
WB 3.1
Phase5 MkII '060
128 Megs Fast RAM
Cybervision64 w/Cybergfx 4

MiamiPing reports back successful Ping of the PC.

AMD K6/2 3D 450MHz
10Mb ethernet on the LAN
10Mb ethernet (different brand) on the Cable Modem
W98se
320Megs

Ping reports back successful ping of the Amiga.

The docs say I should right-click the "Amiga Computer" icon on Windows
desktop to set the properties, but the only options seem to be for using
a serial connection.

Must I do the serial setup first, before I can run it on ethernet? I'm
really hoping this is not the case as both computers are installed into
a traveling case and it is a real pain to take them out. However, if I
must, I must, but I don't want to unless I have to.

So what dumb, easy thing am I missing?

Thanks,
Steve "Polymorph" Greenfield

Before you spend a lot more time on AmigaExplorer...

AmigaExplorer should work, but i would really recommend using samba instead.
That would give you better speed, would be more stable, and will not use
extra system resources in windows, because samba uses the same protocol as
Microsoft Network, so that is already included in windows.

Samba would also give you the posibillity to mount the Amiga on the PC as
any drive letter. - and not to forget; You may mount drives from your PC on
the Amiga as well!

And at last.... Samba is free! The only drawbacks is that Samba is not very
easy to set up, and it will use some memory on the Amiga, but it's worth it!

-snip- lots of good things about Samba.

It is the time and effort aspect. I just don't have the time. Of course,
here I am fiddling with yet another piece of software that was supposed
to save me time.

Anyone here using Amiga Explorer on ethernet?

So far so good...

Type: choose TCP/IP.

Doh! That was it. Somehow I missed that third choice below Com 2.
Sigh...

Thanks!

Now if I can only figure out why MiamiDx is ignoring the keyfile.

Does MiamiDX only require one keyfile?

My regular Miami has two, Miami.key1 and Miami.key2.

Because I was trying to help out Steve with *his* problem.

That's why.
