I just tried a web server on Aminet called PowerWeb and I can't seem to get it
working with MiamiDeluxe. Has anyone else gotten this to work? It seems like
a real simple (appears easy to set up) web server. The author's email address
does not appear to be valid any longer :-(.
HELP
Please reply here and to amig...@home.com
Thanks,
Norm

I just tried using this last night, but it crashed. I messed around with
Miami (I'm using 3.0d, will be likely buying Deluxe in the next week or so)
but still wasn't successful. I also tried that guy's email but it's dead.
D'oh! If I have any success, I'll let you know.
Other alternatives: Apache (working on it), there's an ARexx webserver out
there (haven't tried it yet), Amiga Web Server (which National Amiga was using
a while ago before moving to a more powerful BSD machine, still downloadable
but likely no longer in development - do an Agnes Search on AWD) and I saw one
other on Aminet called "Gawd" but I haven't tried it yet.

I am preparing a release of AWS (Amiga Web Server) 2.0. AWS 0.97 is still
available on Aminet I believe, and is certainly available on ftp.phone.net
in pub/amiga/aws/. AWS 2.0 will work with I-Net 225, Miami and AmiTCP;
which is also true ofthe versions of AWS 0.97 currently available.

Interesting. Will it be commercial/ shareware/freeware/whatware?
What will it offer over 0.97. 0.97 is fine for most purposes, and a
hell of a lot easier to work with than apache. A bit more speed would
be nice though.

I don't think it's ever been on Aminet, itr's not there now. I ot my
copy from phone.net.

CONGRSS.SYS corruptd... Re-boot Washington D.C? (Y/N)
As before, AWS itself will be freeware. AServe _may_ not be. I dunno
yet. I'm running it here, right now, and it's working great.
Unsurprisingly, the major problem is that the docs aren't done.
I'm also missing source to two programs that I need to include in
the distribution. Hopefully, I'll get that from Mike Meyer soon.

Multiple threads, ala Apache, for speed. (I've designed a memory-based
cache that would be "easy" to implement, but have yet to be given a
requirement.)
Single distribution archive.
Integrated logfiles.
Same feature content in all versions (I-Net 225, AmiTCP, Miami).
More modules.
rx-gate is a module instead of a CGI program.
Virtual domains.
Improved ARexx interface.
More utilities.
That's all that pops into my mind. As soon as I finish the docs (I've
got five files still littered with "FIXME" in them) it'll become
available to the old aws-beta mailing list.
Where (i.e., in what way) do you find AWS 0.97 to be slow?
If you want extremely easy to set up, try the ARexx webserver off Aminet! I
got this thing rolling in FIFTEEN MINUTES! Not Kidding! It works with
Miami, all you have to do is enable Rexxmast and then follow the simple
directions! I still want to work with AWS and Apache, but this was so easy,
I'm going to check this out for a while.

Interesting indeed since my company is also preparing a free
release that is planned for Aminet distribution, with Mike Meyers full
permission.

Sounds good.

[lots of new stuff snipped]
This sounds great.

I was subscribed to that list, but it was a long time ago, I'm nit
sure if it was from this address.
> Where (i.e., in what way) do you find AWS 0.97 to be slow?
Transfers over LAN. This is the resukts I've just got using wget to
fetch the same 4MB file via wu-ftpd and AWS.
42.0> wget ftp://192.168.1.2/test
12:53:35 (257.55K/s) - `192.168.1.2/test' saved [4043601]
42.0> wget http://192.168.1.2/test
12:57:41 (22.48K/s) - `192.168.1.2/test' saved [4043601/4043601]
Quite a difference :(

Happiness is merely the remission of pain.
I'm relatively certain I fixed that problem already:
request.c: while (ok && (len = Read (in, buffer, size))) /* was FRead() for some reason... */
there is reason to believe that for files over a "certain" size
(and choosing the appropriate size is a good question) that
asyncio would be a bigger win, depending on the speed of the
LAN connection -- but I haven't done that at this time.
And I've got Mike's full permission too. What's your point? :-)
Neil, I found I could reliably crash AWS 0.97 on my systems if I had too
many concurrent transfers going.
Mike, I can test 2.0 for that if you are interested. (But primarily I
run Linux/Apache these days for things connected directly to the net.
The Amiga server(s) would be for private intranet use - where I can
stress them VERY high via ethernet....)
{^_^} Joanne Dow, jd...@bix.com
(And if Mike Smith is involved I suspect it is gonna be pretty
darned good. The Iworks internet stuff he did works very
works very reliably here.)
Fixed that. :-)

Sure. I'll pass it along. :-)

Thanks Joanne...
