Hi everybody!

I'm using Thor and I had to change my SMTP server and now I need to
authenticate...

I'm pretty sure I've read, a long time ago!!, something about this but with
google I've only found the online Thor's FAQ on Thule's web...

Do I have to change the SMTP server? :-))

Ciao, Giangi (hoping that someone is listening...)

Problem being en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMTP-AUTH ?

I dont see any support or tooltypes for smtp-auth
in the docs for Thor's sendtcp or cfgtcp programs. This new
authentication seems to be part of the ESMTP specs, and as such,
probably developed somewhat later than Thor itself.

I cannot help much, but explain how I 'solved' the issue myself.
Also do a thorough search in aminet. Someone might have supplied
some utility that can help!

I dont send many mails, so its no big deal doing a manual shell cmd:

Miamidnsquery -t mx host.tld

for getting the list of mailexchanger(s) for the recieving party.

I then enter the resulting mx manually in connectthor/configtcp
and send the mail without using any isp support. This requires
that my/your isp does *not* block outgoing connect attempts on
port 25.

Thor is stable as a rock and I'd hate to switch to another email
client. However, you could have a look at the latest incarnation
of Yam, which, afaik, does support more modern smtp functionality.

Now almost every SMTP server are refusing mails from dynamic's ip or from ip
not officially declared into the originating domain... :-(

...me too... :-))

>Hi everybody!

I will repeat, hoping that the Thor Guys are listening, my suggestion to solve
this problem:

Make ConnectThor open source.

That way the part of Thor that needs changing can be changed, and the Thor Guys
can sell updates to Thor as new hardware becomes available.

You do know that Hyperion has announced an OS4.1 update?
