Cheers,
Oliver.
I don't know of any programming specific newsgroups, but the general 8-bit
stuff can be found on comp.sys.cbm .

Don`t know about a newsgroup but I know a man that does!
Well, to be more precise it`s an organisation called ICPUG {Independent
Computer (nee Commodore) Products User Group} who have members still using
every type of C= machine. Their C64 guru is Mike Hatt. Suggest you email
the chairman John Bickerstaff:- jbickerstaff; Compuserve 106100.3447

Hello Oliver,
The 8-bit Commodore newsgroup is comp.sys.cbm. It is not specific
to programming, but plenty of programmers hang out there. The FAQ is
humongous.
On IRC join channel #c-64. On Thursday nights at 9PM EST on the
US side of EFnet there is a demo conference on channel #c64ntsc.
The major ftp sites are funet and ccnga.uwaterloo.ca; ftp.eskimo.com
has lots of NTSC demos, ftp.vgernet.net has digis, SIDtunes, and more demos;
there are a bunch of euro sites but I don't visit them often, so I don't
know them offhand.
Some good web sites (with lots of links) to visit are
http://soho.ios.com/~coolhnd -- Driven home page, NTSC "scene" stuff
(get the entries from the recent 4k demo contest)
http://www.msen.com/~brain/cbmhome.html -- Jim Brain's 8-bit page,
has C=Hacking among other things.
http://www.eskimo.com/~drray/discovery.html -- Disc=overy home page
http://www.the-spa.com/cmd -- CMD home page, major C-64 hardware
developer (check out the new 20MHz accelerator :)
There are two e-zines which come out pretty regularly: C=Hacking and
Disc=overy. These magazines can be quite technical, and have lots of good
stuff in them, even for non-64 programmers.
Finally, there is a little-used mailing list, c64-h...@nic.funet.fi
I think (something close to that, email me and I'll find out for sure).
There are a lot of exciting things going on in the 64 communnity, and
I think you'll find it to be a pretty vibrant group which is genuinely moving
forwards.

"Comp.Sys.Cbm" is a Newsgroup for 8-bit Commodore computers, and discussion
of the C64 is the major source of posts in there.
