you probably have janus 2.0. to run janus 2.0 on an accelerated machine with
kickstart 2.0, you have to put "cpu nodatacache" or "enforcer quiet" in your
startup-sequence *before* binddrivers. the enforcer method is preferred.

you still won't be able to run pcprefs on kickstart 2.0.

try to get janus 2.1 - it may not be really "out" yet, but a sympathetic dealer
with 2386SX bridgeboards might give you a copy.

even if you do get janus 2.1, you still have to do the CPU/ENFORCER thing for
it to work.

or, follow the advice of this person who posted on the fido net recently...

If you have a MMU (2620, 2630, 3000, and some GVP accellerators),
I believe you must add 'Enforcer Quiet' to your startup-sequence
file, probably near the top.

The color problem is controlled by the PCPRefs program and the
MS-DOS mode command. The bridgeboard comes up in mono always
(I think). I set COLOR in PCPrefs and put the line 'mode co80'
in the autoexec.bat file. You will miss the MS-DOS boot procedure
messages, but once everything is working OK, you don't need to see
them anyway.

I have a A2286 bb running under 2.04. It works fine. While I have
an accellerated A2000, the accellerator has an 680EC30 (no MMU).

I ask my dealer everytime I'm in the store. I always hear 'no'.
But my dealer also admits that they are always the last to know.
(Commodore doesn't keep them in the loop)

You should be able to type 'version janus.library' on the Amiga
side and you will see the MS-DOS janus version ## on boot up.

I hope I have given you correct information, but if not, it was
free ;-)

Actually, there's a jumper on the board (J14) that controls the initial mode
on the A2286. It should be DOWN for color, but is shipped UP for mono.

Did you accelarate your Amiga to 680x0 ?? If so, try 'SetCPU NOCACHE' or
'Enforcer' before BindDrivers in your startup-sequence. A friend had the
same problem with his accelarated A2000, and some helpfull fellow developers
we're able to help him out.

>Oh, one more thing...how do I tell which version of Janus software I have?

Try 1> Version janus.library
